Strengthening customer service starts with strengthening people, and Hitachi Global Air Power in Michigan City is leading by example.

To elevate the customer experience across their highly technical organization, Hitachi partnered with Purdue MEP to deliver the Customer Service Skills for Success training series. The goal: build stronger communication, empathy, and problem-solving abilities among teams who support customers in high-pressure situations.

The results have been powerful:
• 30+ employees trained with high engagement and consistently positive feedback
• Stronger communication, improved relationship building, and higher self-awareness across teams
• Employees now more confidently de-escalate tense situations, especially during critical equipment downtime
• Future training already planned, backed by executive support
• A remarkable 90% retention rate among trained employees, highlighting the value of investing in people

This is what it looks like to treat customer service as a strategic advantage, not a soft skill.
