Congratulations to Amber Brown!

Amber, our Director of Talent and Education, has been selected as a speaker at the 2026 NKY Chamber Women's Initiative Regional Summit, taking place November 5 at Northern Kentucky University. The all-day summit draws hundreds of professional women from across Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana, spanning every career stage from young professionals to senior leaders and entrepreneurs.

Amber is a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, and her breakout session, "CliftonStrengths: The Language of Talent," will explore Gallup's CliftonStrengths framework and the four talent domains. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of their natural strengths, an awareness of potential blind spots, and an action plan for applying their strengths with more confidence and intention. No prior CliftonStrengths assessment is required to benefit from the session.

Succession planning at nonprofits is easy to put off until a departure is on the calendar, but the leaders who navigate transitions well tend to start thinking about it well ahead of time.

Gilman Partners recently joined Elizabeth Benson, CEO of the new BEAM Center for Nonprofits, in hosting a panel discussion with board members and CEOs who have been through recent leadership transitions. Panelists included Vanessa Freytag, former Board Chair of Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association (OCCRRA) and past President & CEO of 4C for Children; Chris Angellatta, CEO of Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association (OCCRRA); Rick Wurth, CEO of OneQuest Health; Jeffrey Sackenheim, outgoing Board President of OneQuest Health; Bill Harrod, Board Chair of Crayons and Beyond; and Kirstin Eismin-Henry, President & CEO of Crayons and Beyond. Michele Plessinger and Megan Meyer represented Gilman Partners' Nonprofit Practice at the event.

The conversation covered building leadership depth across the organization, creating a board pipeline, and the difference between a continuity plan and a succession plan. One theme stood out: the goal isn't finding someone to replicate the outgoing leader. As Michele put it, the new leader brings their own shoes.

Gilman Partners' CEO, Angel Beets, shared trends in succession planning before facilitating a panel discussion at last week's EACC Cincy (European American Chamber of Commerce) Workforce 2026 event.

John Stroia, President of Hamilton by Gunnebo, and Elizabeth Harvey, Director of People Development at Prysmian sat on the panel tackling leadership continuity: how organizations identify, develop, and prepare future leaders across U.S. and European business cultures.

The numbers made the case for why this matters now. Among mid-market U.S. businesses, 85% consider succession planning critical, 57% have a plan in place, and only 23% are actively implementing one. Closing that gap starts with identifying the critical roles where an unplanned vacancy would disrupt operations, then rating internal candidates' readiness systematically rather than assuming a plan exists just because a name has been attached to a role.

Leadership development is following the same shift, away from standard programs and toward pathways built around individual circumstances, cross-functional stretch assignments, and AI training that builds capability while surfacing who is ready for larger roles.

Organizations that treat succession planning as a documented, ongoing process rather than a sensitive subject are the ones building a bench that's ready when the next transition comes.

Last night, we celebrated the graduation of Cohort 16 of GP Elevate.

Cohort 16 showed a genuine willingness to put learning into action, and it came through in every presentation. Their final presentations were full of specific, tangible examples of applied lessons, and for many, that translation led to real professional and personal breakthroughs. One participant opened their final presentation with a line that captured the entire evening: "The learning matters only when behavior changes."

It's a fitting way to describe what GP Elevate is designed to do. The program was never meant to hand people another framework to file away. It's meant to change how you show up, so you're leading differently than you were when you started.

Congratulations, Cohort 16. Your growth these past seven months speaks for itself.
