Back when the iCube was the BusinessMedia Center, our goal was, and still is, to help spread the use of emerging business technology through rural Tennessee by involving students in taking on strategic demonstration projects. One of these projects, in 2004, was to take Dolly Parton Foundation's Imagination Library state wide by applying emerging flash technology.

TTU’s BusinessMedia Center, under the direction of Kevin Liska, developed the original Governor's Books from Birth Foundation website, now the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation, with the help of students. Before the GBBF, only 10 counties were involved with the Imagination Library. This brand new communication website offered and organized the Imagination Library to eventually service all 95 counties in Tennessee. The BusinessMedia Center introduced emerging flash technology, with the help of iCubes own Paul Harrison, to the Imagination Library website through an interactive map that encouraged counties to competitively join the program. Our work didn’t stop there. We pitched the idea to the Dolly Parton Foundation to develop a CD-ROM kit to help other states take on and adopt the Imagination Library on a state wide basis. Once the technology was fully launched, Kevin Liska was invited to a get together in Gatlinburg to celebrate and Kevin got this photo with Dolly.

Dolly Parton and the Imagination Library has inspired kids everywhere to be excited about reading and literacy. Here at iCube, we are proud that we had the opportunity to work with her foundation and bring those resources state wide.

Our iCube team was excited to travel to Nashville for Metro In-Service for Teacher Training!

Amanda Rae Powell, Hannah Willis, and Alexis MacAllister represented iCube by sharing information about our traffic safety initiatives, including the new Tennessee Road Safety Standards, Ollie Otter for elementary schools, and Reduce TN Crashes for high schools.

We were grateful to present these programs during two sessions alongside our friend Kaitllyn from NDOT. THSO also brought the Seat Belt Convincer, giving educators an exciting, hands-on way to experience the importance of wearing a seat belt firsthand!

Following the presentations, educators had the opportunity to put the Tennessee Road Safety Standards into practice by working through a lesson plan from our website, and Ollie Otter even stopped by to see how everyone was doing!

It was an awesome day spent connecting with Tennessee educators, sharing free resources available in our state, and showing how these tools can help teachers educate students about traffic safety while meeting new school standards.

This week, Tennessee Tech's iCube was proud to host a Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Certification Course, led by instructors Julie Brewer and Holly April Church

During the certification course, participants gained hands-on experience by working with booster seats and child dolls of various ages and sizes, learning how to properly fit and adjust restraints for growing children. This practical training prepared them for today's car seat check on Tennessee Tech's campus, where CPS students and certified technicians worked directly with local families to ensure children were riding safely in correctly fitted and properly installed car seats.

Events like these help turn education into action, equipping technicians with the skills and confidence to make a meaningful impact in our community. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped promote child passenger safety!

We have been hard at work putting together this new space in the office, and we're thrilled to finally share it! Meet the Ollie Corner, the new home of Ollie Otter!

This space was designed to be a fun, welcoming environment where Ollie can host presentations, show videos and photos, along with other creative content. Whether we're educating, engaging with our community, or creating new resources, Ollie Corner gives us a dedicated place to make it happen.

A huge thank you to Amanda Rae Powell, Julie Brewer, and Eva Maffett for your creativity, hard work, and dedication in making this vision a reality!

Julie and Holly, along with Ollie Otter, teamed up with Putnam EMS, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Cookeville Police Department for a Seat Check event on Saturday. Together, they helped educate families on proper child passenger safety and the importance of ensuring every ride is a safe one.

This event also used our new car thermometers, which clearly demonstrate the dramatic temperature difference between the inside and outside of a vehicle. It's a simple but powerful visual reminder of how quickly a parked car can become dangerously hot.

We're always proud to see our team out in the community, partnering with local organizations to promote safety, share valuable resources, and make a positive impact. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more and help keep our youngest passengers safe!
