Ricky served as the 31st Cookeville Mayor from August 2014 to August 18, 2022. Ricky and Shannon Shelton founded the nonprofit foundation Better Cookeville in 2016 to be a Community and Economic catalyst that will build, connect, promote and distribute resources and knowledge by supporting local organizations, events, partnerships and initiatives for the common good and to enhance the quality of life of our citizens. Partnerships with Better Cookeville and many community businesses help make this wonderful event possible. To fulfill this mission, BetterCookeville is committed to:
* Serving Cookeville, Putnam County, and the Upper Cumberland Region with creative and visionary action that address the evolving needs in both community and economic development.
* Helping Cookeville grow and thrive by being devoted to preserving our communities traditions, values, appearance, customs and festivals while maintaining and promoting quality of life.

Ready to play? Join us for Game On! STEM Super Saturday, a fun-filled morning where sports and STEM come together! Families will explore how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics help athletes train, compete, and improve performance. Through hands-on activities and exciting demonstrations, participants will discover the STEM behind favorite sports, test their own skills, and tackle engineering challenges.

Designed for children in PreK–8th grade and their families, this free event features engaging stations for everyone. Whether you're shooting hoops, racing a ball down a ramp, exploring reaction time, or designing sports equipment, you'll see that STEM is always in the game!

Registration is free. Bring the whole family and come play, learn, and discover!

Super Saturdays are free, Saturday workshops in hands-on science and math for young learners and their families. These interactive programs are age-appropriate for PreK-8th graders and encourage family participation.

A parent/guardian must remain with the student/students regardless of age. Safari Saturdays are flexible events, come and go as your family’s schedule allows.

This event is FREE and open to the public!

Registration is highly encouraged for planning purposes, but it is not required.

Chuy's opening late spring/early summer 2027!

According to the UC Business Journal, they are excited to bring Chuy’s to Cookeville and introduce guests to their one-of-a-kind take on Tex-Mex, featuring fresh, made-from-scratch dishes, signature ‘ritas, and famous creamy jalapeño dip – all served in a fun, eclectic atmosphere.

Construction on the restaurant is set to begin October 3rd in The Willows at the southeast corner of S. Willow Avenue and I-40.

The company’s first location outside of Texas opened in Franklin, Tennessee, in November 2009. Today, it operates more than 100 locations across 15 states, including eight other locations in Tennessee.

Today, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority voted unanimously, 6-0, to begin the process of modifying the airport’s name in honor of Dolly Parton.🦋

Airport statement….
While a final name has not yet been determined, we are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated.

This vote represents the first step in a multifaceted process. In the coming months, we anticipate having more definitive plans to share regarding the next steps and implementation.

We are grateful for the tremendous support and enthusiasm from our community and Dolly’s fans around the world. We look forward to sharing additional details as plans are finalized.

25 years ago, nearly 3,000 lives were lost on September 11. I’ll never forget where I was when I first saw the images—it was hard to comprehend. Many today were too young to remember, but we cannot let that day fade from memory. For a moment there was no politics, no agenda. Our entire country came together as ONE. 🇺🇸

We live in a broken world, and true freedom requires vigilance—not just from leaders, but from each of us. We must stay alert, we must remember, and we must pass the story on to the next generation.

As we remember those who lost their lives and those who sacrificed so much 25 years ago, let’s look with hope toward a future where we will be one nation, courageous and united under God once more. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
