Meet Mariam Barron, an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) with the Cookeville Fire Department's Community Response Team (CCR)!

Mariam has been with the City since September 2025, starting as an EMT and recently earning her AEMT license. She works alongside Erika, the team's behavioral health clinician, to assist individuals experiencing mental health crises. Together, they provide compassionate care, address medical and behavioral health needs and connect individuals with appropriate community resources.

Mariam says her favorite part of the job is her coworkers, who have become like family, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Cookeville residents.

Originally from Southern California, Mariam moved to Cookeville in August 2025 and says it has been one of the best decisions she's made! Outside of work, she enjoys live music, weightlifting, reading, trying new foods, road trips and movies. She's also looking forward to exploring more of Tennessee and hopes to learn how to fish and hunt!

Mariam hopes to attend paramedic school within the next two years to continue advancing her career.

👏 Thank you, Mariam, for your dedication and service to the Cookeville community!
