Congratulations to the City of Greenville, Texas, on the opening of its first full-service community recreation center, the Greenville SportsPark Center!
It all started in 2022 with a website form submission from Parks and Recreation Director Brett Quarles about a project he wanted to discuss. For a community of roughly 35,000 people, what followed was a grassroots effort that began with a feasibility study and a City Council willing to think big, and, in their words, “make a big splash.”
Located outside the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Greenville had nothing of this scale within at least 30 miles. That gave the City an opportunity to create much more than a recreation center. The SportsPark Center is positioned to become a regional destination, an economic driver, and a place where sports, fitness, recreation, and community life can grow together.
The result is a more than 120,000-square-foot center packed with opportunities to play, compete, exercise, gather, and connect. Amenities include six full-size basketball courts with convertible volleyball courts and pickleball courts, indoor turf and batting cages, an indoor aquatics center with lap lanes, a children’s play area, hydrotherapy current channel and climbing wall, a full-service fitness center, group exercise rooms, a three-lane indoor walking track overlooking the gym and aquatics spaces, outdoor fitness areas, child watch, party rooms, and a dry sauna. The center also connects directly to the surrounding Greenville SportsPark and its growing network of outdoor recreation amenities.
For some, it might be surprising to find a state-of-the-art recreation center like this in Greenville. But that is exactly what makes the project special. It is proof of what can happen when a community sees an opportunity, dreams big, and has the determination to make it happen.
