On the Own Your Business podcast, you’ve heard a lot about buyer types and psychological motivations. 👀

We feel it’s important to do deep research on who your favorite couples are, what they believe, how they behave, and what emotional and social desires they hold deep down but don’t know how to express.

Because when you know how to speak directly to what matters most to ideal couples, they become clients…

✅ You charge more for your services.
✅ You enjoy the experience of serving them, rather than dreading their wedding date.

Over the years, I’ve steered our company upstream to help get more ideal couples for our clients. Now, we’re going even further upstream by integrating branding and website design into our in-house services.

But we’re not simply scratching the surface with our approach. We’re diving deep into the user experience and merging it with our work on buyer psychology and communication preferences.

➡️ That’s why this week, Katy joins me on the Own Your Business podcast to discuss the process of creating different designs for different buyer types based on how they prefer to process information on websites.

So if you’re not getting enough inquiries, or inquiries from the right kinds of couples, this one’s for you, wedding pros.

Fitting in is a survival skill, wedding pros. 🤫

If you go back thousands of generations to our ancestors, those who were able to become part of a tribe were the ones who survived. And those survivors’ DNA is what was passed down to us.

We’re all wired to crave belonging. To feel connected to others.

And we start to associate feeling connected and belonging to a group as a way for us to get what we want.

➡️ That means when it’s game time the day of your client’s wedding, you don’t want to be the person who doesn’t fit in.

Get clear on the dress code before you show up at your couples’ weddings. Align your grooming and attire to fit the group and setting you know you’ll be joining.

But I know that grooming and attire know-how isn’t something that comes naturally to all of us…

To make all of this easier for you, I brought my dear friend, luxury wedding planner, and certified protocol officer, Julian Leaver, onto this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast.

Tune in to the full discussion to learn why it’s important to look the part that you are meant to play on the wedding day, plus how you can use simple guidelines to make that easy, affordable, and comfortable while you’re spending the day on your feet.

Have you ever shown up at a party feeling like you missed the dress code cue on the invitation?

It’s awful. 🫣

You stand around talking to people, but the only thing on your mind is how uncomfortable you feel about the way you look.

It’s called the “spotlight effect,” when we feel like everyone’s looking at us more than they actually are.

But if the party you underdressed for is a wedding, people ARE looking at you, because it’s a part of the overall experience to observe how others show up…

💡 Which means as a vendor, you have to show up looking like you fit in.

So what’s the criteria for wedding pros working at weddings?

As with most advice, it depends on the situation. That’s exactly why I brought in Julian Leaver, luxury event planner and The Dapper Diplomat, for this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast.

I wish there was an “easy” button for you to make more money with your business, wedding pros. 😅

Unfortunately, there isn’t.

There’s no shortcut that doesn’t require work for you to achieve success. And frankly, it’s unlikely that you will achieve radical results in very short periods of time with your business.

The truth is, your progress will likely happen in increments (sometimes unperceivable baby steps) when you’re in the middle of all that hard work.

But in order to make success fun, you’ll need to ensure you’re enjoying the journey along the way…

➡️ That’s exactly why I brought in Sara Kincaid, VP of Operations at Aisle Planner, to join me on this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast.

We sat down for a discussion on how to make things easier for your business without losing the personal touch that your clients want and need from you…

Because what is “easy and convenient” for you, is oftentimes not the optimal experience for your buyer.

CRMs are a big part of any successful business, wedding pros. 👀

They help organize information, get contracts signed, collect payments, build a database of potential referrers, and streamline workflows.

The problem is, I see too many wedding pros take CRMS to the extreme, especially when it comes to automation.

➡️ But remember that what’s easy and convenient for you - the business owner - often feels impersonal and generic to your couple.

Even worse, you might create a “workspace” through your CRM that requires peple to operate the way you want without considering it from their perspective.

No one wants that kind of client experience. So how DO you balance automation with personalization?

That’s exactly what Sara Kinkaid, VP of Operations at Aisle Planner, joined me to discuss on this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast.

Swipe ➡️ through to learn why it’s so important to build trust with potential clients effectively, so that you can book more business with higher-paying clients.

This last December at Engage!23 The Boca Raton, one of the speakers I picked up huge insights from was Milton Pedraza, founder and CEO of The Luxury Institute.

He shared information about market research his firm discovered about affluent buyers, including the top traits in the brands they buy from.

✅ One of the biggest factors in making a purchase decision with a luxury-level brand is trustworthiness.

Many years ago, I had read that trustworthiness was the number one characteristic of customers for any business - not just luxury. It was helpful to hear Milton Pedraza say the same thing specifically for the luxury market.

But how do you show somebody that you’re worthy of their trust?

That’s exactly what we’re breaking down on this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast…

💡 Click the link in our bio and tune in now to learn the top 10 things you can do to build trust quickly (even nonconsciously) with potential clients.

🗣️ Trust isn’t given, it’s earned. Sure, marketing and sales requires you to do lots of different things well…

But at the root of it all - is trust.

People on your website and in your inbox want to know you’re going to deliver the goods. Will you do what you say you’ll do, when you say you’ll do it?

➡️ That’s why they care about your portfolio. They want to know you’ve delivered the things they want for their own wedding to others before.

➡️ That’s why they want to connect with you. They want to know you’re likable, a good listener, and an authority in what you do.

➡️ That’s why they want to feel empathy from you. They want to know you get them and have helped others with what they’re looking for.

The problem is too many wedding pros aren’t paying enough attention to building trust.

That’s why this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast is about the top 10 ways you can build trust in the sales process.

Plus, hear all about the time I lost trust with a willing buyer - because it’s not easy to recover once you’ve bankrupted the trust account.

Friction in the buyer’s journey grinds away on deal momentum slowly and silently, wedding pros. 😅

I’ve looked at hundreds of sales processes over the years, and I can tell you it’s usually not one big, dramatic reason why potential clients ghost you.

When a deal dies, it’s more like death by a thousand paper cuts.

One nick isn’t that bad. Two, you can still keep things going. But after a while the little things start to add up and create real, substantial problems.

➡️ The challenge is that most people are creating friction in the buyer’s journey, but have no idea when, where, or how.

That’s why Katy Taylor Jacobson is joining me for this week’s episode of the Own Your Business podcast to help break down exactly where wedding pros are creating friction unknowingly on their website and in their sales process.

I know a lot of wedding pros are having a hard go at filling their calendar for 2024 - while also wanting to get a jumpstart on 2025. 😅

One of the things that I’m hearing often in my 1:1 coaching sessions is that people want to make improvements, but they just don’t have the time.

That’s one of the reasons why we’ve created our very own Masterclass Library - now available in the Ideaction Pro Shop. 👀

Think of these masterclasses as your efficient, low-cost “scalpel” to perform surgery on your sales process in the places it’s needed most.

Each masterclass is between 60-150 minutes and comes with a comprehensive workbook to help you follow along and work through certain steps in the process.

In just one session, you’ll walk away knowing exactly what you need to do to nail your next discovery call or wow your potential client with your next proposal.

And the best part is, you don’t have to join a big, immersive program or commit to an intensive subscription service to make it happen.

✅ Click the “Template Shop” link in our bio to shop our six brand new masterclasses - plus our complete bundle - now!

Why do you do what you do, wedding pros? 🔍

Every week I do 5-10 coaching calls. Sometimes 15 if it’s a busy time of the year, and each call is completely different.

And most of the time I’m working 1:1 with clients it’s about identifying the core issue they’re running into.

Along the way, I’m picking up on different clues that help guide me to the solution that best fits a particular problem and particular person.

It’s what makes me a coach and not a teacher. Not only do I have a solution for the problem, but it’s one that’s tailor made for the person I’m working with…

➡️ Which brings me to one of the biggest challenges that I see business owners face: seeing that their motivation for going into work every day (their internal drive) doesn’t align with their daily activities.

This is why it’s so crucial that before you do anything - in life or in your business - you take some time to get clear with yourself on WHY you do the things you do.

And one place it’s especially important to communicate your motivations and values is on your About Page.

✅ That’s why I brought Katy Taylor Jacobson onto the Own Your Business podcast this week to discuss a handful of things that you should NOT be doing on your About Page, plus what to do instead. Click the link in our bio to tune in now!
