Don't join an easy crowd; you won't grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high.

This is one of Jim's most direct pieces of advice, and it's one a lot of people struggle with.

We naturally gravitate toward comfort. We find groups where nobody challenges us, where the conversation stays safe, where the expectations are reasonable. And "reasonable" is the problem.

Jim watched this pattern his entire career. Someone would attend a seminar — fired up, ready to change everything. Six months later, they were right back where they started. Not because they lacked ability. Because they went home to the same crowd.

"The same environment that shaped your current results," Jim would say, "will keep producing the same results."

So what does it mean to find a crowd that isn't easy?

It means seeking out people whose standards make you uncomfortable. People who are further along than you are. People who expect more from you than you currently expect from yourself.

It means attending events where you're the least experienced person in the room. Reading books that stretch your thinking. Having conversations that challenge your assumptions.

Jim used to say that growth and comfort never share the same address. If you're comfortable with everyone around you, you're probably not growing.

This doesn't mean seeking out people who are harsh or critical for its own sake. It means finding people who care enough about excellence that their standards naturally pull you higher.

People love to call it luck once the results become visible.

What they don’t see are the years of consistency, sacrifice, setbacks, self-doubt, and discipline it took to get there. Most success stories are built in silence long before anyone pays attention.

The people who win are usually the ones who refused to quit when it stopped being easy.

If you as a leader are unable to make people or your team believe in themselves especially where obstacles and complex issues arise that require your guidance, calmness and resilience, then you are in the wrong role and should not be in a leadership role.

Being a leader is about making and motivating your team performance beyond their self belief, creating an environment that provides creativity, moral and desire to perform well and succeed.

You help them make the impossible possible by helping them focus and breaking it down into manageable components to achieve the overall vision for them and yourself by default.

Easier said than done, but it's possible.

Of course not all your team members will succeed but so long as you make the majority believe in themselves, the rest will follow suit or leave on their own accord as they do not fit in.

Your only responsibility to your team in this case, is for you to provide equal opportunities to thrive and perform... and that upto them how they proceed from there.

Please note- I am not asking or suggesting you to hand hold them, but rather to give them a path where they can pave the way to their higher performance.
