Leadership is not just what you know. It's how you show up.

Please join us in welcoming Essdee & Co. to the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce! 💼

Shelley Davis Boyd is the Founder, President and CEO of Essdee & Co., a firm dedicated to elevating leaders through training, coaching, and keynote experiences that integrate strategy and soul. With more than two decades of executive experience, Shelley works with executives and teams who want to grow without losing their humanity.

Her belief is simple but powerful: when strategy and soul are integrated, leadership becomes both effective and deeply sustainable. The result? Clearer decisions. Stronger cultures. Leaders who show up with confidence that is owned, not performed.

Some of you may already recognize Shelley as the inspiring speaker from our first annual ATHENA Awards, and if that evening told us anything, it's that she has a gift for moving a room.

We are so thrilled to welcome her to our Chamber community. And stay tuned, because Shelley will be leading our next Inclusive Livingston event very soon. You do not want to miss it. 👀

Give her a follow and show this incredible woman-owned business some love! 💙

Welcome, Shelley and Essdee & Co. We're so glad you're here. 🤝

Michigan politics are anything but quiet right now, and on September 17, we’re bringing in someone who has spent decades at the center of it all.

Bill Ballenger has served in both the Michigan House and Senate, worked in the Gerald Ford administration, led a Michigan state department, taught government and public administration, and spent decades reporting on and analyzing Michigan politics. He also founded Inside Michigan Politics, which he published for 27 years, and his insight has been sought by CNN, NPR, PBS, BBC, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and more.

That’s a perspective you don’t get every day.

With the primary behind us, November ahead and plenty happening across Michigan, the timing for this conversation couldn’t be better.

Join us at Good Morning Livingston as Ballenger takes us beyond the headlines for a timely, nonpartisan look at Michigan politics, policy and what it all means for our businesses and communities.

Decades of experience. One timely conversation.

📅 Thursday, September 17 | 8:00–10:00 AM
📍 Chemung Hills Golf & Banquet Center

☕ Come for breakfast, bring your questions, and hear from someone who has experienced Michigan politics from just about every angle.

Think about the last difficult conversation you had at work.

Maybe something was misunderstood. A disagreement became more tense than it needed to be. You avoided saying something because you weren’t sure how it would land. Or everyone walked away thinking the conversation went very differently.

Now imagine being better prepared for the next one.

In this afternoon's session, Inclusive Livingston: The Listening Advantage is about building the skills to do exactly that.

Join Nicole Matthews-Creech of the Livingston Diversity Council for a practical conversation about listening with greater intention, reframing challenging conversations, finding common ground, and navigating disagreement without losing trust along the way.

Because disagreement isn’t the problem. How we move through it can make all the difference for our teams, relationships, and workplaces.

🥗 Lunch is provided. This is your last chance to claim your seat! We'll be gathering from 11:30 AM–1:00 PM.

The next difficult conversation will come, but how you choose to listen, respond, and move forward can change the relationship long after the conversation ends.

FROM A POPCORN MACHINE IN THE BASEMENT TO 30,000+ RETAIL LOCATIONS. 🍿🚀

That’s the entrepreneurial journey Mark Sarafa, co-founder of Pop Daddy Snacks, is bringing to our next Entrepreneurship Forum.

What started as Mark experimenting with popcorn for family and friends eventually became his full-time career. Along the way came risk, new products, changing opportunities, plenty of lessons, and a Michigan-grown brand that today reaches consumers across the country.

On September 1, Mark is joining Kevin Suboski, founder of Fastest Route, for the kind of conversation this Forum was built for.

Kevin created this room to give entrepreneurs something they rarely get: space to step outside the day-to-day, learn from people who have actually built, evolved, and made difficult decisions, and think more intentionally about what comes next.

This isn’t a keynote from the back of a ballroom. It’s an opportunity to get in the room, ask questions, exchange ideas, and learn alongside other entrepreneurs doing the work.

📅 September 1 | 3:00–6:00 PM

SEVEN YEARS OF DIANNE! 💛🎉

Today we’re celebrating Dianne Samples' 7-year anniversary with the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, and trying to summarize everything Dianne has meant to this organization in one post is... a challenge.

As our Director of Programs & Engagement, Dianne wears more hats than we could possibly list. She builds relationships with our members, develops programs and sponsorships, supports events, keeps countless moving pieces moving, jumps in wherever she’s needed, and on more than one occasion has probably helped keep this whole ship afloat. 😅

Over seven years, though, Dianne’s impact has gone far beyond a job description.

Her roots run deep in Howell and Livingston County, and she genuinely cares about making this community the best it can be. She has a gift for bringing people and ideas together, seeing possibilities, building relationships, and turning ideas into something real. Behind so many of the programs, partnerships, events, and experiences our members know and love, you’ll find Dianne helping make it happen.

Just as important is how she does it. With heart, humor, a smile, and a genuine interest in the people around her. Dianne celebrates the wins, shows up when someone needs a hand, and brings an energy to our team that simply can’t be written into a job description.

Outside the Chamber, the role she treasures most might just be Mimi. ❤️ Her crazy, wonderful family and sweet grandkids are at the center of her world, and anyone who knows Dianne knows just how much joy they bring her.

When we asked Dianne her favorite part of the job, she said it best: “Bringing people and ideas together, being part of making our community the best it can be, discovering and developing strengths I never knew I had while seeing the impact created along the way.”

Dianne, thank you for seven years of showing up for our members, our team, and the community you love so much. We’re incredibly grateful for everything you bring to this Chamber, and it simply wouldn’t be the same without you. 💛

Please help us wish Dianne a very happy 7-year Chamber anniversary! 🎉🥂
