“High school students graduating in 2028 will have to achieve higher test scores to qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship…which covers 100% tuition at any Florida university, now requires a student earn a score of 1350 on the SAT, the entrance exam used by most colleges and universities. It's a 20-point increase compared to the threshold for this school year's graduating class. The test scores for the Classic Learning Test, or CLT, went up just one point to 96, and there were no changes to the ACT score minimum.”

“[Bright Futures] also requires students have a minimum weighted grade point average of 3.5 and 100 volunteer service hours, 100 paid work hours or a combination of 100 total hours. Those requirements have not changed.”

“To qualify for the Florida Medallion Scholarship, which covers 75% of tuition, students must score at least 1200 on the SAT, up from the 1190 minimum for Class of 2027 graduates….The CLT and ACT each went up one point to 83 and 25, respectively.”

Worth a read - this jumped out (paraphrased here quoted below), Does the task register in the brain as worth doing in the first place? Salience!

"For scientists studying brain functions, attention means something narrow: the selective amplification of relevant information. It can be measured by laboratory tasks that assess, for example, how well someone ignores irrelevant or conflicting information or finds a target hidden among distractions.

"But that’s generally not what people mean when they are talking about attention problems in A.D.H.D.

The classic features of A.D.H.D. include things like not staying on task, losing the thread of a conversation and forgetting instructions. They are failures of “sustained engagement.” If attention is about the mind homing in on what’s relevant in a given moment, engagement is about keeping that spotlight pointed at the same target over time. Doing so may be less a matter of filtering out distractions and more a matter of whether the task registers in the brain as worth doing in the first place."

Evidence suggests that it really affects what psychiatrists like me call sustained engagement — an important difference in understanding how to think about the condition.

PBC's School Choice Showcase - Tues,10/6/26, from 4-8 p.m.
This is the big one out at the fair grounds. It is not my favorite because it is so big and overwhelming, BUT for some families it is easier to do it all in one night instead of going to the Choice Open Houses at each school (those dates are announced later).

FAU Card has a bunch of great information sessions, group and activities planned for the Fall. I saw everything from college planning for grades 9-12 to toilet training and water safety. Also sessions on guardianship and SSDI and SSI.
Goal: find at least one thing to attend. It is hard to find time, but so worth it!

I hadn't knowingly encountered many trans people before I started my current work. There is gray area and nuance with everything (especially with medical decision making for children). What there should not be is disrespect, discrimination, or violence against people who are telling us who they are and asking to be accepted as they see themselves. This article is devastating in its patriotism, professionalism and in its pain. I am sharing a gift copy in honor of my clients who just want to be accepted and treated with respect.

This part really showed how much has changed in the last couple of years:
"No one has affirmed my gender identity quite like Mike Pence. On my last day, I gave him a letter. I wrote: “I’m a trans­gender CIA officer, a wife and mother—­and I served the Vice President. Anything is possible in America.” I told him many people at the CIA hadn’t believed that a trans officer like me could serve someone like him.

“Well,” he said, “I’m glad I passed the test.”

The Trump White House needed me—until the fact that I am trans became public.
