I am loving the variety of sessions that are filling up my calendar lately. From tech stack audits to customer journeys to full strategic planning to updating marketing plans and positioning - getting in a room with a female founder and helping move her business forward is my purpose in motion!

How can you actually DO collaboration over competition?

Some ideas for you to try:

Ask a "competitor" to coffee. Us the time to learn about each other as business owners AND humans. I can almost guarantee they'll handle an aspect of business or specific type of client you don't.

Get in spaces with your "competitors." I know a group of 5 local women, all in marketing, who get together socially several times a year. They love to learn from each other, strengthen their industry knowledge, and enjoy being with others who actually get what it is that they do every day.

Make a “referral list” in your phone notes or a draft email. Add three "competitors." When you have a lead that isn't a match, send the list to the lead instead of leaving them empty handed.

Model collaboration. Invite another business owner to co-host something. An Instagram Live. A coworking day. A Q&A. A coffee meetup.

I'm surrounded by words in my office. Artwork reminding me to choose JOY. Coffee mugs helping me to separate myself, my business, and my family. Favorite quotes. Special cards from special people.

The one I look at the most, every day? The post-it note stuck on my monitor. It's the most important reminder I need when I enter the work zone - what my boundaries are (and bonus, what my why is.)

Take a minute. What's the reminder you need everyday?

Write it down. Put it on your bathroom mirror, or your phone lock screen, on your coffee maker, or you laptop. Remind yourself to remind yourself.

I'm going to say something that might hurt your feelings.

Being busy isn't the same as moving your business forward.

Here's something you'll probably like though - if there is nothing for you to do, it's fine to STOP WORKING. You're the boss. To do list is done? Head to the lake. To do list is only busy work? Take a nap.

A loving reminder that you started this entrepreneurship gig to be more in control of your own life. And that means you can kick a strict 9am - 5pm to the curb.

(For that matter, if you want to work 8pm - 4am, you're the boss, just do it, right ??)
