Reacting feels productive. Responding actually is.

Today's clip shares a small hack with big leverage: work your inbox in scheduled "response windows" instead of answering every ping the second it lands. You reclaim your focus - and you make calmer, better calls.

How to start:
- Pick 2-3 fixed times a day to process messages.
- Tell your team the windows exist (it lowers everyone's anxiety).
- Keep one true-urgent channel for what genuinely can't wait.

Most "urgent" messages aren't. They're just loud.

The hidden cost isn't the 30 seconds it takes to reply. It's the re-entry tax - the several minutes your brain needs to climb back into deep thinking every single time it gets yanked out. Stack that across a day and you've traded one block of your best work for a hundred shallow ones. Response windows hand that focus back to you on purpose.

Burnout isn't always about workload. Sometimes it's about never knowing when you're allowed to log off.

Today's clip names a fix most teams skip: train your team on response times. When everything feels urgent, nothing gets prioritized - and everyone stays tense.

Try this:
- Chat = same day. Email = 24 hours. Urgent = call.
- Say the norm out loud so it's shared, not assumed.
- A late-night message doesn't demand a late-night reply.

Clear expectations are a gift. They tell people when they've actually done enough.

Here's the part leaders miss: your team can't read your mind, so in the absence of a stated norm they default to the most anxious one - answer everything, instantly, forever. You're not protecting output by staying silent. You're quietly teaching people that rest is risky. Naming the standard out loud is one of the kindest things a manager can do.
