Leaders are allowed to have emotions.

The question is never whether you feel something. The question is where does that emotion belong before it reaches your team.

Because unprocessed emotion has a way of showing up whether you invite it or not. In the urgency of your tone. In the way you deliver feedback. In the decision that gets made too fast or the expectation that shifts without warning. Your team feels it even when you think you are holding it together.

What I teach leaders is something I call emotional routing. Before you bring something to your team, you need to know which bucket it belongs in first.

Sometimes the emotion is still raw and unclear and it belongs with you in private before it goes anywhere else. Sometimes you need a coach, a peer, or a trusted voice to help you get perspective before you act. Sometimes a regulated and honest version of what you are experiencing actually helps your team understand what is happening and builds trust. And sometimes the emotion has been processed and what your team needs from you now is simply a clear decision and a next step.

Raw emotion moves upward or sideways. Clear regulated leadership moves down.

That one shift changes the way your team experiences you as a leader and it changes the kind of culture you build over time.

If this resonates and you want to work through what emotional routing looks like in your leadership, let's talk.

You changed the policy, but nothing improved. 🧐

That is one of the most frustrating moments in leadership, and it happens more than most people talk about. You spotted a problem, you made a call, and the problem did not go away. It leaves you are questioning the decision and maybe even questioning yourself.

Here is what I want you to consider before you make another move: correlation is not causation and as leaders we have to be really careful about connecting two events and assuming one caused the other.

We walk through exactly what this looks like in a real business situation and how easy it is to miss the bigger picture when you are only looking at what changed instead of everything else that was happening at the same time.

Before you pull a policy, restructure a team, or make a sweeping decision based on a dip in results, slow down and ask what else was going on in that same window. Sometimes there is a lot more to the story than the two things you are looking at.

That is the kind of thinking that separates reactive leadership from above-the-line leadership.

Visit greatdaybusinesscoaching.com and let me help you navigate these sorts of things as they arise.

Leading a business alone is a lot to carry.

Most of the leaders I work with are not struggling because they lack talent, drive, or vision. They are struggling because they have never had the right support at the right level, and after a while that gap starts to show up everywhere.

In the decisions that take too long. In the ideas that never quite get off the ground. In the exhaustion that comes from being the only one who really knows what is at stake.

That is not a character flaw. That is just what happens when you are building something real without anyone truly in your corner.

Swipe through and see if any of these feel familiar. And if they do, know that is exactly where the work begins.

We tell leaders to be curious. But then what?

Curiosity without the right language is just a good intention. And good intentions do not move a conversation forward; the right questions do.

Most leaders freeze not because they don't care, but because nobody ever gave them the actual words. The questions in this reel are ones I use and teach every single day, and they are not complicated or fancy, but in the right moment with the right person, they change everything about where a conversation goes and what becomes possible inside it.

Curiosity is a skill, and the more you use it, the more natural it becomes and the better your team will feel heard, understood, and willing to bring you the real stuff.

That is emotional intelligence in action and it is exactly the kind of work we do together.

Not sure how to work with me? Start here.

I know that reaching out to a business coach can feel like a big step, especially when you are not even sure what kind of support you actually need. So I wanted to make it simple.

There are several ways we can work together at Great Day Business Coaching, and none of them follow a one-size-fits-all model because your business is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is your leadership.

We can work together one-to-one in a deeply personal and immersive coaching relationship built around exactly where you are. You can join Peer Perspective, a monthly group where real leaders have real conversations and walk away with real perspective. We can bring your team together through Above the Line Leadership workshops that teach practical tools your people can actually use. We can build or improve your systems so your business runs with more clarity and less chaos. We can work on strategic planning, communication, and the leadership skills that hold everything else together.

The result looks like stronger leaders, healthier teams, and a business that feels less like something you are surviving and more like something you are proud of.

If you are not sure where to start that is completely okay. Most people aren't. Reach out and we will figure it out together.

Stop scrapping your systems!

I know the feeling. Something is not working, and the instinct is to throw the whole thing out and start over from scratch. It feels productive. It feels decisive. But what it actually does is cost you time, money, and the progress you already made.

W. Edwards Deming, the godfather of process improvement, gave us something so simple it almost feels too easy. Plan, do, study, act. Put it on repeat. That is it. That is the whole thing.

Every time you run that cycle, you are not starting over; you are getting better. You are building on what already exists rather than burning it down and starting over. The system improves because you stayed with it long enough to learn from it.

The problem is not usually the system. It is that we skip the study part and go straight back to scrapping.

So before you throw it out, ask yourself if you have actually run it all the way through. Because the answer you are looking for might already be inside the system you are about to walk away from.

Every communication breakdown has two sides.

But when things go sideways, most of us start by looking outward. What did they do wrong, what did they not say, why did they handle it that way. It is human and there is nothing wrong with admitting that is where we go first.

Here is what I have noticed after years of working through communication challenges with leaders and teams. In every survey, every lessons-learned meeting, every problem debrief, communication is always the thing that broke down. And almost always the root cause lives closer to home than anyone wants to admit.

My default has always been to turn inward first. Not to self-blame but to get curious about what part I played, what I could have said differently, and what I chose not to address when I should have.

That one shift changes everything.
If that question feels like a stretch right now, that is exactly where we begin. Visit greatdaybusinesscoaching.com and let's find your next great day.

Your ducks don't have to be in a row.

Brady over at Essential Beauty posted something recently that stopped me mid-scroll and honestly said something I have been trying to say for years about leadership, flexibility, and trusting the people on your team.

We spend so much energy trying to get everyone moving in perfect formation, same path, same method, same pace, that we sometimes miss the fact that our team member took a side quest, found their own route, and still got to the goal.

That is not a failure. That is your leadership working the way it is supposed to.

Define the destination, trust the people, and stay flexible on how they get there because sometimes the beebopping duck is exactly who you need on your team.

Your business is growing. That is a good thing.

But growth has a way of exposing the gaps. A team member gets promoted into leadership for the first time and is not sure how to lead the people they used to work alongside. Internal conflict starts bubbling up, and nobody is quite sure how to address it. You are scaling, and the systems and communication that worked when it was just a few of you are no longer cutting it.

Sound familiar?

This is exactly where the Above the Line Leadership Workshop meets you.

Not with a canned program. Not with a stack of slides nobody remembers by Friday. But with hands-on, practical sessions built around what your team is actually navigating right now. Real scenarios. Useful frameworks. Simple language your whole team can repeat and apply the same day.

Whether you are leading a team through change, developing new leaders, working through growing pains, or just ready to invest in the people who show up every day and make your business run, there is a format that fits where you are.

Half-day and full-day workshops. Lunch and Learns. Series that build momentum over time. All tailored to your team and your goals.

If you are a small business owner who knows your people deserve better development than you have had time to give them, let's change that.

Visit greatdaybusinesscoaching.com/workshops and let's build something that lasts.
