A court just ruled AI answers are Google's own words. ⚖️

A Munich court said Google's AI Overviews are Google's own content after they mixed two publishers up with scam companies (Google says it isn't final). That's Germany, but the lesson travels: AI now describes law firms in its own words, and a 2026 audit found it leans on directories like Super Lawyers, Justia and Avvo before firm websites.

Ask an AI about your firm today. Then check where it got its answer.

Ask ChatGPT who the best Family lawyer in your town is.

Comment on what it said. Screenshot if you dare.

Here’s what we’ve learned watching this happen for solo and small firms:

AI doesn’t recommend the best attorney. It recommends the most documented one. The books. The video FAQs.

The podcast interviews. The reviews that say exactly what you do and for whom.
If your name didn’t come up, your expertise isn’t the problem. Your evidence is.

AI can summarize the law. It can’t be the lawyer people trust. Your job is to make sure the machine knows who that is.

We wrote about exactly what to do about it:

A Little-Known Way To Boost Your Credibility
Every element of your firm’s website counts.

What you say, how it looks, the colors, the pictures, and the flow of information, all add up to convey an implicit message to potentials.

It should be designed to deliberately establish your preeminence and prove that you’re the best choice, for the kind of cases you handle, in your metro/practice area.

As you know, one of the most crucial website elements – and one of the best ways to make yourself look preeminent, well-respected, and approachable – is having an excellent profile picture directly on your homepage.

The “Jedi Manual” Of Legal Firm Marketing

In Phantom Menace, Mace Windu famously said that 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker was too “old” to become a Jedi.

Why? There are several reasons. But the biggest one is this:

The Jedi need to indoctrinate young apprentices’ minds before they attach to specific leaders. They need to inoculate them against the non-Jedi ways of looking at the world which they’ll eventually encounter.

How is this related to the legal world? Well, yesterday, we were talking about “price-shopping” vs. “question” keywords. Learn more here: https://www.speakeasymarketinginc.com/the-jedi-manual-of-legal-firm-marketing/

A Chorus Of Clients Singing Your Praises?

One of the biggest mistakes I see many attorneys making with their websites is this:

They have too few testimonials.

Two or three testimonials, no matter how glowing, aren’t going to help “sell” your services much. In my experience, you need to have at least 10 testimonials, but I suggest 30 or more.

Why?

Because the more testimonials you have, the more potentials get the message that you know what you’re doing, and that many others have already trusted you. A long list of testimonials gives you a powerful credibility boost that little else can match.

Online Lead Provider Companies… Good or Garbage?

Here’s the vast range of comments I’ve heard about DUI, Bankruptcy, and other lead providers online.

• “Your leads are Garbage!”
• “I love your service. I get clients every 7 to 10 leads.”
• “Why do so many of your leads never answer the phone?”
• “You guys do a good job. I retained 2 clients last month.”

Huh? So do these providers do a good job or not?

Do their leads truly suck or are they worth it?

Your credentials aren't what sets you apart. Your competitors have them too.

Experience matters.

Credentials matter.

But today, prospects can research, compare, and find information before they ever contact your firm.

The challenge is no longer only being qualified.

It is making your expertise easier to understand, trust, and remember.

Because when the difference is unclear, price often becomes the easiest comparison.

What do you think makes one law firm stand out from another?

The AI Race In Law Just Got Expensive. Morgan & Morgan plans to invest $1 billion.

Reuters reports that Morgan & Morgan plans to invest $1 billion in technology and AI over the next decade, after already spending approximately $300 million developing its internal AI platform, MX2.

The platform is reportedly used by nearly 5,000 people each month.

And this isn't AI being used for party tricks.

The reported applications include extracting medical information, drafting case documents, and preparing for trial.

That's the part attorneys should pay attention to.

AI is moving from something lawyers experiment with to something firms are building into their operations.

But there's another detail in the story worth noticing.

Morgan & Morgan previously encountered an issue involving invented citations and responded with stronger review and training.

That's an important reminder:

The future isn't about choosing between attorneys and AI.

It's about knowing what technology should handle, and what still requires human judgment.

AI can process information.

It can't own your professional judgment for you.

What part of your practice would you trust AI to handle, and what would you never hand over?

What Happens When Attorneys Commoditize Themselves - When you look and sound exactly like everyone else who provides the same services you provide, acquiring clients becomes a game of pure numbers. That is a game that you don’t want to play because both you and your clients will lose. Potential clients who use lawyer comparison shopping websites choose an attorney from the equivalent of a fast-food dollar menu.

An attorney handling 90 matters a year may think growth means finding another 20 or 30 clients.

But there’s another calculation.

Add $750 to the average matter value and the difference is $67,500 a year — with the same volume.

The harder part isn’t the arithmetic. It’s making sure prospects understand why your firm is worth more.

Would you rather grow by taking more matters or by increasing the value of the matters you already handle?
