Some of you might know that a little over a year ago I started a running/fitness journey (using the run/walk/run method developed by Jeff Galloway...RIP). In the process I have learned a lot about myself both mentally and physically, including that I can do hard things 💪. After several runDisney 5K races, I have decided to stretch my goals and run the Disney Princess 👑 10K in February 2027. I'll be running on a bib for the Starlight Children's Foundation. This children's charity focuses on the healing powers of play by providing character themed hospital gowns, and delivering toys and gaming systems to help very sick children, brightening their hospital stay. It's all free of charge thanks to . I have built my career on toys and licensing so this is a cause very close to my heart. As we get ready to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) on Sunday, I want to share the latest project we have had the great honor to license. After several years in the making, our great partners at Oni Press have launched the graphic novel FREEDOM: THE STORY OF OPAL LEE AND JUNETEENTH, the first-ever graphic novel dedicated to the history and origin of the Juneteenth holiday. This 208 page biography chronicles the inspirational journey and resilient determination of Dr. Opal Lee — known as the Grandmother of Juneteenth — who spent decades in pursuit of the cause. Dr. Lee is such an inspiration, and as we near her 100th birthday in October, her journey is a lesson in determination and grace during trying times. Special thank you to Sierra Hahn and Megan Brown from the Oni Press team who understood the assignment, the author A. Angélique R. for her incredible research and joy in the project, and artists Alvin Epps, Bex Glendining, Millicent Monroe, and Alexis bennett without whose creativity and artistry this project would not have been possible.
