“Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” · Hebrews 12:1
A stallion is horsepower. Raw, and it turns heads. But horsepower alone never won a race. Hang enough dead weight on a strong horse and it will wear itself out standing still. The power was never the problem. What it drags is.
That is where Hebrews meets you. Throw off everything that hinders. Not because every load is sin, but because it is weight, and weight and speed cannot share the same horse. You were built to run. Most of what slows you down is stuff you were never meant to carry in the first place.
And notice what He does not say. He does not say run wherever you want. He says run the race marked out for us. There is a line. There is a direction. And there is an us. A great cloud of witnesses in the stands, a stable of others running the same track beside you. Nobody clears the distance alone, and nobody was built to.
So bring the horsepower. Shed the weight. Keep your eyes on the line He drew, and run it with the ones He gave you. That is not just power. That is power going somewhere.
Father, help me lay down what I was never meant to carry. Set me on the race You marked, put runners beside me, and let me finish it with everything You gave me. Amen.
