1 Corinthians 6:12.
"'All things are lawful for me,' but not all things are helpful. 'All things are lawful for me,' but I will not be dominated by anything."
Most chase freedom like it's the right to do whatever they want. Whatever they crave. Whatever they can rationalize.
That isn't freedom. That's a longer leash with a heavier collar.
Paul doesn't say it's illegal. He says, I will not be dominated. He's not asking permission. He's announcing sovereignty. There is something he refuses to let own him.
Every man already knows what owns him. The phone you can't put down. The bottle. The applause. The rage that runs the house when it's late. The image you maintain so people will keep clapping.
If you can't stop, you don't own it. It owns you.
Christ didn't come to hand you a license. He came to give you back command of your own house. Real freedom is the power to say no to the thing that owns you, and yes to the thing that won't.
If something else is calling the shots, you're not free. You're hired.
