Something's changing around here in January.

I'm not going to explain the whole thing today. But I'll tell you what prompted it.

For years I've offered a lot of doors. Courses, memberships, workshops, ways in at every price point. It looked generous. What it actually was, was a buffet — and the women I most want to help weren't hungry for more options.

They needed a bridge.

So I've spent months building one room instead of eleven doors. Six months, one framework, a very small group, and me in the room the entire time.

That's all I'm saying today. 🤍

Something big drops in January. Take the free quiz to see which phase you're in before the doors open: https://quiz.tryinteract.com/ #/669828c6e4c610b9e53617cc

One chair. One room. You know exactly what you're looking at.

Now describe your business in one sentence.

If it took you more than a breath, that's the problem — and it isn't a branding problem, it's a decision problem.

You cannot be the designer for everyone in a town where nobody's sure what you do.

Three services, four price points, two ideal clients and a "but I'll do anything, really" is not flexibility. It's a room with eleven chairs in it. Nobody knows where to sit.

One clear offer. One clear buyer. One clear outcome. For the next 90 days.

You can add the rest back later. I promise you'll want to. But you cannot build a reputation on a menu.

"I don't have time to build a business."

I know. Neither did I.

I built my decorating business while working a full-time corporate marketing job. Nights. Weekends. Two protected blocks a week and not one minute more.

In one year, that side business was earning what my six-figure salary paid me. I didn't resign until year three.

So when someone tells me they don't have time, I believe them completely — and then I tell them the truth:

Nobody has extra time. Not one person reading this is going to stumble across a free Tuesday.

I didn't find time. I assigned it. Those are different things, and only one of them is actually available to you.

It's 90 minutes a week to start. Not 90 minutes when you feel inspired — 90 minutes that live on the calendar like a meeting you can't move.

You are not stuck because you aren't talented enough.

I've coached hundreds of designers and decorators, and I have never once met a woman who was stuck because she wasn't creative enough.

She was stuck because she was working on the wrong thing. Beautifully. For months.

A gorgeous portfolio site before a pricing structure that doesn't lose money.
Chasing followers when three referral partners would have changed everything.
Studying how to scale an offer that doesn't convert yet.

It all feels like progress. That's what makes it expensive.

There's an order to building this. Transition, Build, Grow, Scale — and working out of order is the most costly mistake in our industry.

I made a 2-minute quiz that tells you which phase you're actually in and what to focus on right now. It's free.

I don’t think enough of my ideal clients even exist.”

A client told me that this week. Calmly.

And immediately I knew she needed some MINDSET work. Because what she believed I knew didn’t align with the facts.

Her ideal client? Affluent families who want their home redecorated.

Here are the facts…

There are 2.7 million of those households in California alone.

They exist. She’d just never counted them. 📊

Scarcity rarely shows up as fear. It shows up as a “fact” you never bothered to check.

So check it. 👇

THE MATH:
13.5M households in CA (Census)
1 in 5 earn $200K+ → 2.7M
24,769 design businesses in the whole state (IBISWorld)
= 112 affluent households per firm
You need 6 clients to have a real year.

Your market isn’t too small. Your sample size is.

📋 COPY THIS PROMPT into ChatGPT or Claude:
“You’re a market research analyst. I’m an interior designer serving [affluent families in Southern California — $200K+ household income, homeowners].
1. How many households in [my state] match that? Use Census/ACS data.
2. How many design firms compete there? Use IBISWorld or BLS.
3. Divide 1 by 2 — how many targets per firm?
4. If my average project is [$25K] and I want [8] a year, what % of that market do I actually need?
5. Top 5 cities or ZIPs where these people live?
Cite a source for every number. Label anything estimated. Don’t guess.”
Then come tell me your number. 👇
Hov had a whole bar about this. People will tell you anything. The numbers won’t. 🤍

This week I started a new chapter in my career.
Professor of Marketing at Reynolds College.

I remember about 4 years ago thinking, how did I end up “teaching high school” while running my coaching business?

I would constantly ask GOD why am I here?

And the first day I started teaching I knew he had a bigger plan for me. I’d have students come to me after class and ask for a meeting to discuss how they can start a business for themselves.

I feel in love with teaching and set a goal to become a Professor one day.

Over the past 3 years, I learned everything I could and enjoyed my time teaching at the secondary level..

But what I didn’t know is that God was preparing me for this very moment.

Sometimes we fight the very thing that is preparation for our next chapter.

As a retired Interior Decorator, I still get to have some fun decorating my new office.

Comment what color scheme you think so should decorate my office in?

Hint: my favorite color is green. 😉
