Four years ago I was posting on LinkedIn consistently and getting almost nothing back.

Decent content. Real expertise. Genuine effort.

But the right people weren’t finding me — and I couldn’t figure out why.

I want to say something that will make some people uncomfortable.

Coaching certifications are one of the most expensive ways to delay building an actual business.

Not because certifications are worthless.
But because coaches are using them as a substitute for what actually builds a business -- making a specific offer to a specific person and having a direct conversation about it.

Every month spent getting certified is a month not spent in the market.
Every dollar spent on credentials is a dollar not spent on getting in front of the people you are meant to serve.

I have worked with coaches who have three certifications and no clients.
I have worked with coaches who have zero certifications and a full practice.

The difference was never the credential.
It was always offer clarity, message specificity, and the willingness to have real sales conversations.

You do not need to be more qualified.
You need to be more specific.

When she first reached out, she had been trying to build her coaching business for two full years.

She had a certification.
She had a website.
She had been posting almost every day.

Zero paying clients.

She was not lazy. Not untalented. Not lacking in expertise.
She was spinning her wheels doing things that looked like progress but were not producing revenue.

In our first session, we found three things:

Her offer was too broad. She was trying to help everyone, which meant she was resonating with no one.
Her messaging focused on her process, not the transformation she creates.
She had never actually asked anyone to buy. Not once. She was waiting to be discovered.

We rebuilt her offer around one specific person and one specific problem.
We rewrote her messaging to speak directly to what her ideal client is living right now.
We built a simple, human outreach strategy focused entirely on real conversations.

Week seven: she signed her first client.
Week twelve: she had signed three.

Everyone is telling coaches the same thing.
Post more. Be consistent. Show up every day.

And coaches are listening.
They are posting every single day.
Creating content. Adding value. Building an audience.

And still not signing clients.

Here is why.

Visibility solves a discoverability problem.
But most coaches do not have a discoverability problem.
They have a specificity problem.

When someone lands on your profile and cannot immediately understand who you help, what specific problem you solve, and what their life looks like after working with you -- they leave. Every time.

No amount of posting fixes that.

You can have 50,000 followers and still have an empty calendar if your offer is not specific enough and your message is not landing with one exact person.
