Greater Richmond has been named one of the “Regional and State Clusters to Watch” in Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News’ inaugural “Next 10 U.S. Biopharma Clusters” report.

GEN pointed to the region’s 1,203 National Institutes of Health awards totaling $707.5 million, 904 patent families and a life sciences workforce of 7,650 jobs as evidence of strong research momentum.

Anton Paar runs its business across the entire Western Hemisphere from Hanover County.

The Austrian maker of high-precision laboratory instruments was founded in 1922 and employs about 5,000 people worldwide. Its U.S. and Americas headquarters in Hanover oversees more than 400 U.S. employees and coordinates about 800 across the Americas, from Canada to Argentina and Chile.

As Manufacturing Month comes to a close, we’re celebrating the companies and people building Greater Richmond’s future.

Manufacturers are driving a big share of the region’s growth. Greater Richmond has reached a record 13.8 million square feet of industrial space under construction, ranking No. 9 in the U.S. for industrial square footage under construction and No. 3 among metros with fewer than 5 million residents. The region also ranks No. 1 in food and beverage worker productivity.

Global leaders are taking notice. Lilly, Alfa Laval, The LEGO Group, Lutron, Super Radiator Coils, Sapporo and Eaton are among the manufacturers investing in the City of Richmond and Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties.

Congratulations to Dominion Packaging and Henrico County EDA.

Dominion Packaging, Inc. is investing $25 million to expand its manufacturing capacity in eastern Henrico County, a move expected to create more than 100 new jobs.

The company’s new 188,000-square-foot facility at 2724 Seven Hills Blvd. will serve as a dedicated finished goods and distribution hub. That frees up its neighboring plant to scale production and meet growing customer demand.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger recognized Virginia’s Top Employers for Interns through InternshipsVA, and the Richmond region was well represented.

Atlantic Union Bank, A member of the Greater Richmond Partnership Regional Leadership Circle, was named the statewide winner in the large business category, and 34 Greater Richmond employers earned the Innovative Employers Award for extraordinary internship programs.

Eight more regional employers received the Inspiring Employers Award for longstanding support of interns’ career readiness, led by Chesterfield County with 36 years.

We were honored to present the 2026 Ukrop's Economic Development Service Award to two leaders who have spent their careers serving Chesterfield County and Greater Richmond.

Garrett Hart, director of Chesterfield Economic Development, helped bring projects such as The LEGO Group, Commonwealth Fusion Systems and Google to the county. Together, those projects represent more than $12 billion in capital investment and more than 10,000 new jobs.

Dr. Joe Casey, Chesterfield's county administrator, has served Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield over a 37-year career. He built the fiscal foundation behind Chesterfield's growth and made it the first Virginia locality to earn AAA ratings from all four major credit agencies.
