The Joiner class of young woodworkers!

The Joiner class, which is the third series in The Art of Sloyd, is learning to use the router plane and how to make dado joints. Today’s session they made a small case which becomes the model for a full sized bookcase. Very proud of these young woodworkers.

My kids workbench design continues to evolve. Added a 10 degree angle to help with stability, floor levelers (because the floor in the new space is not dead flat) and non skid pads to help with sliding. It will take a bit to reconfigure my existing benches but well worth the effort.

New location and a new chapter in my life!

One of the most difficult parts of being a woodworking instructor and a parent, is letting the kids make mistakes. But making mistakes is how we learn. and that is why we never ask "is it perfect?" but instead we ask "did you make it as good as you can?" Projects may not be perfect but the kids can take pride in doing thier best.
