Are you planning to attend the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC) Forum 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota?

Don’t forget to sign up for 106 Group’s Archaeology Lab Tour—Bus/Mobile Workshop on July 25. This session takes attendees behind the scenes of a professional archaeology lab, to see how artifacts move from field collection to lab analysis and how that work informs preservation decisions.

Participants will tour 106 Group’s archaeology lab in Saint Paul, where our team will share case studies demonstrating how archaeology strengthens heritage preservation and regulatory compliance, deepens community narratives, and expands opportunities for public engagement.

We are honored to celebrate the opening of the Wakąn Típi Center, a transformative cultural space that marks a major milestone in the Dakota community’s reclamation and care of this sacred site in St. Paul.

This moment reflects decades of dedication, partnership, and vision to restore land once damaged by industrial use into a place of learning, healing, and connection for generations to come. The Center stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of Indigenous leadership, cultural storytelling, and community‑driven design.

At 106 Group, we are incredibly proud to have been part of this journey, working alongside Dakota leaders and partners over many years to help shape the interpretive experience and exhibits that bring these stories to life.

National Historic Preservation Month Spotlight – Water Works

At Water Works, the story begins with the people connected to the Mississippi Riverfront. Generations of Native American and African American communities shaped this place, gathering, working, building lives, and enduring displacement, while carrying forward deep resilience.

Through cultural resources planning, these layered histories were brought into focus, guided by archaeology, community voices, and interpretation. Preservation matters because it ensures these stories endure.

A major milestone reached — the Ala Kahakai Interpretive Plan is complete!

Developed for the community and shaped by community voices, this plan brings together trail knowledge holders, planners, and partners including PBR HAWAII, Hoaʻāina Heritage Services, the State of Hawai‘i Trail and Access Program, and the National Park Service, to guide how the stories of the historic Ala Kahakai Trail corridor are shared.

Through site visits, workshops, and virtual conversations, the process centered local insight and lived experience. The result is a framework that supports education, stewardship, and meaningful connections along the trail.

Mahalo to everyone who contributed their time, knowledge, and respect for ʻāina in this effort.
