From bicycle factory to craft cidery, talk about a transformation!

Last week, 106 Group’s Emily Wallrath Schmidt volunteered at Open House Chicago at the former Schwinn Bicycle factory in Hermosa, now home to Right Bee C***r. Visitors learned how historic buildings can find new life through adaptive reuse, while enjoying the story of a cidery that uses honey from its own rooftop beehives.

Our team was glad to participate in the Midwest Archaeological Conference in Mankato this past week. 106 Group took part in two sessions, including a panel discussion on Current Threats to Historic Preservation.

Lindsey Wallace joined fellow panelists John Doershuk (Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist), Lucy Harrington (Minnesota SHPO), and Tyrel Iron Eyes (SRST Tribal Historic Preservation Office) to talk about the pressures facing Section 106, archaeology, and preservation, and how the field can work together to respond. With Section 106 under threat nationally, these conversations matter.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

We’re proud to have been part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park exhibit project, helping bring stories to life through updated interpretive displays in the historic Contact Station and Tufa House.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

This month invites us to reflect on the history of Hispanic cultures in the United States and their indelible impact on the American story. National park sites like Blackwell School National Historic Site, San Juan National Historic Site, and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park tell some of these important stories, teaching us how Hispanic communities shaped our nation's history.

And yet, there are so many more stories from this community that deserve to be memorialized and protected. Everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in America’s shared history and through our greatest storyteller: national parks.

Alongside the City of Minneapolis and the African American Heritage Work Group, she will proudly accept the Leadership in History Award on behalf of 106 Group for the Minneapolis African American Historic & Cultural Context Study.
