⚾ The iconic 1933 Goudey set boasts four Ruths and two Gehrigs, and our Spring Auction included mid-grade examples of three of the six.

When the hammer dropped, they amassed more than 150 bids and nearly $100k in price realized, accounting for three of the top seven single-card lots in the event. ⚾

⚾ The legendary 1909-1911 T206 White Border set is appropriately known as " The Monster" with seemingly endless image and advertising variations.

Most prewar hobby heads can easily name the T206 "Big Four" (Wagner, Plank, Doyle Nat'l, Magie). However, our Spring Auction included two lesser known variation nuances, Ray Demmitt & Bill O'Hara's St. Louis examples, with Polar Bear as the only manufacturer to update the team name following a trade from New York.

Of course, bidders recognized the opportunity, with the combined price realized clearing $36k.

🏀 Released just prior to the NBL/BAA merger (to form the NBA), the 1948 Bowman Basketball set marks the first time a mainstream release was entirely dedicated to professional basketball.

Leading the premier edition is what can be considered the OG basketball grail, the iconic rookie card of the Minneapolis Lakers' dominant big man, George Mikan. 🏀

⚾ Early 1930s Goudey had Ruths and Gehrigs. Early 50s Bowman had Mantle and Mays. In between there was Play Ball - three uniquely designed gum card sets released from 1939-1941 featuring consensus rookie card for all-time great Ted Williams.

The "Splendid Splinter" had a dominant rookie season, batting .327 with a league-leading 147 RBIs. Two years later in 1941 he would bat .406, and he followed that up by winning the triple crown in 1942 before missing three years to serve in WWII. ⚾

⚾ On his way to becoming the most popular player in the history of Baltimore sports, Cal Ripken Jr's minor league jaunt with the Charlotte O's produced perhaps the most coveted minor league card in the hobby.

This example from our Spring Auction smashed the record we set in 2024, with bidding climbing $47,000 in the final day, ending with an $81,000 price realized. ⚾

🏀 A 1980s Dallas-area collector made a habit of tracking down visiting players to sign Star Basketball cards, and they produced huge payouts in our Spring Auction.

The confluence of unprecedented demand for the set and for period-signed cards created a perfect storm, with this Jordan reaching 100 total bids, and jumping $57,000 in the final day. 🏀

⚾ For good reason, Jackie Robinson is most well-known for breaking baseball's color barrier in 1947, en route to NL Rookie of the Year honors. Two years later, Robinson hit a league-leading .342, topping Stan Musial to win the MVP.

At the time, Bowman was establishing themselves as the leader in postwar card manufacturing, producing sets in 1948-1951 that were largely unrivaled in the mainstream, aside from the multi-sport 1948-1949 Leaf issue. That is, of course, until Topps hit big in 1952, changing the game forever.

This well-centered PSA EX 5 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson from our Spring Auction perfectly captures the player, and the dawn of the postwar hobby. ⚾

The results are in! 🎉 We have endless appreciation for the consignors and bidding community that helped make the Spring Auction successful.

We wouldn't have expected two of the three biggest single-card lots would be from the 1980s, but a period-signed Star Basketball MJ and an elite example of the 1980 Charlotte O's Cal Ripken Jr. aren't exactly junk wax...
