Cherish Matias spent years as a pre-K teacher in Atlanta before her love of early childhood education and her love of baking came together in Cheri's Berries Cafe & Play. She opened the indoor play space and scratch-made cafe in Metropolis in late 2025, building it with help from her husband, her father, and her brother. Cherish balances the business with raising two young kids of her own, often baking late into the night to keep up with orders. Cheri's Berries has grown to more than 1,000 followers since opening, almost entirely through word of mouth on Facebook. Cherish calls herself a proud Illinois retailer. Watch her story.
