First Choice NDE in Vancouver, Washington, offers NDT training classes,including Level III, CWI Exam and ICC Bolting Exam preparatory classes. We teach MT, PT,RT, VT, UT, Basic, with PAUT and Radiation Safety coming soon. We offer training sessions in a formal classroom setting and/or LIVE INTERNET instructor-based training. With First Choice NDE, you will receive live and hands-on training instead of a taped training in CD format. Our online involves training with equipment and weld samples that are shipped directly to you. With more than 25 years of experience in the majority of industries and codes, we have learned how to train examinees effectively. CEU's and PDH's are awarded at the conclusion of our classes, along with a formal training certificate.

We get asked often about what we cover during the hands-on portion of our UT I class, below are some of the labs we do:

Straight Beam Calibration
Familiarization of UT equipment (within this lab, a few of the things this lab covers are:
UT machine itself
Transducer
Sweep, Timer, Pulser, Receiver/Amplifier Settings
Reject/Gating Control among many other things
Near Field and Attenuation
Bolt and Threaded Rod Flaw Detection
Soundness Scan of Plate
Dual Element Calibration

We spend 10 hours on hands on training during our UT I & II courses
We loan out UT scopes for those that don't have access to them and mail out hands on training samples to all students.

D1.8 testing is happening August 31st at the Vancouver, WA office starting at 7 am.
Advanced UT training will be from August 27-August 30th and is 40 hours.

We will be having D1.8 testing on August 31st at the Vancouver, WA location.
Advanced UT class will be held August 27-30 and is 40 hrs in length.
A few of the topics covered in this class are:
Codes: Review AWS / ASME codes for equipment, calibration and acceptance.
Instrument Qualification: Horizontal, vertical linearities and dB accuracy cal. Production calibration: Perform calibrations per ASME and AWS codes
Special Applications: Transfer correction and through transmission techniques
Scan Plan: Testing approach based upon joint design and typical flaw locations Flaw Detection: POD (probability of detection) angle, approach and scan faces False Indications: Backing bars, gel signals, redirection (mode conversion).
Flaw characterization: 2D / 3D: Planar, cylindrical & spherical. Joint design critical, Plates with known flaws & identification of signals
Flaw Sizing: Code requirements, advanced techniques: tip diffraction etc.
Weld Joints: UT approach to tee, corner, butt & skewed plate & tubular joints, Dissimilar materials and thicknesses, thin material & long seams
Production Scanning: 100+ test samples mixed between natural / artificial flaws

The UT I class for September is half full, the MT I/II in Oct has 3 spots left and UT II in Oct has 2 spots left so if you plan on taking any of these classes, you should get your enrollment forms in now to hold the remaining spots.
We've also updated the training calendar through December and have added an Advanced UT class with D1. 8 testing.
