As the Founder + CEO of the Indie Business Network, few things make me happier than strolling markets and fairs where makers and artisans sell incredible one-of-a-kind products, meeting up with them, and, of course, shopping! 🛍️

I was in Bethesda recently running errands and saw closed streets on a lovely afternoon. It can only mean a few things when you see tents and people, so I wandered over and saw the Downtown Bethesda Pop-up

I came across a lovely booth, hosted by

I got some handmade soap and it smells so good. I’ll share more when I use it. My next move may be their Night Glow Facial Oil, which looks enriching, protective and wonderful.
They also have a Chai Time soap with cinnamon, sweet orange and clove, which I have to try!

Our founder loves visiting IBN members as their retail stores, shows, pops and events!

Today’s fun celebrates Jodie 324 and Co. and her family as they vend at the in King George, VA.

The fragrances are amazing, and the Citrus + Citron is divine so that is what we stocked up on. Got some hand wash and soap.

Jodie’s business is supported by her amazing husband and their four sons whom she home schools while teaching them about entrepreneurship. They were there organizing, cleaning, offering customer support and just being otherwise adorable young men.

What if the secret to getting more done isn't working harder... but working smarter? ✨

I got a candle and some energizing room spray. I also visited with founder, teen entrepreneur and scholar Alejandro and his mom Patricia who is gently guiding the ship. (Alejandro will be taking over soon though, as I see he is now about to be driving! 🚘)

They do a lot of markets up and down the east coast, and a few in mid-America, so be sure to stop by their website and see when they are coming to your area. It’s definitely worth the trip!!

Your product is not your business.
The problem you solve is your business.

Before you decide to sell skincare, candles, knitted sweaters, coaching, or anything else, ask yourself:

👉 What problem am I solving?
👉 Who am I solving it for?
👉 Why would they choose me?

There are millions of products in every category. The businesses that stand out are the ones that solve a specific problem for a specific group of people.

Don't start with the product.
Start with the problem.

When you get clear on the problem, your marketing becomes easier, your messaging becomes clearer, and your customers know exactly why they need you.
