Castles. Vineyard walks. Phenomenal wine. 🍷🏰 ✨ definitely checking all the boxes! 💯

You might not have noticed the epic equipment as quickly as Todd did... but there was some very cool stuff hiding in the cellar!

While everyone else was admiring the château, Todd was geeking out over the winemaking equipment. 😉

Especially to a winemaker — vessels matter. Each shapes a wine differently, influencing everything from texture and aroma to aging potential.

Home for the week! 🚢🍷🇫🇷 Not a bad way to explore one of the world’s most famous wine regions.

🧠 Since it’s Triva Night back at the Tasting Room—statistics were top of mind!

We easily found out that the AmaDolce is 360 ft long, goes about 11 knots and carries 144 guests and 45 crew. But… how many bottles of wine are stocked in the cellar …and how many life-rafts? 😬

Nobody outside the ship’s operators likely knows the exact number of bottles on board at any given moment.

That said—we can make an educated estimate for a typical 7-night Bordeaux sailing:

144 guests × 2 glasses per day × 7 days = ~2,000 glasses

5 glasses per bottle, that’s roughly 400 bottles just for included daily meal service.

Now adding in the welcome reception, curated tastings, Chef’s Table Dinners, bar inventory, reserve stock, and crew provisioning 😉 it’s reasonable to guess the ship may be carrying well over 1,000 bottles of wine at any given time—especially on a Bordeaux itinerary where wine is a major focus. 🧠 🤓 This is an estimate, for the geeks and trivia buffs out there — not an official figure.

🛟 As for life rafts, we couldn’t find a published AmaDolce-specific count. Obviously it must carry enough lifesaving equipment for all guests and crew under European inland waterway regulations.

⚓️ That said—One standard shipboard life raft often holds about 20–25 people. On a fully booked AmaDolce sailing, they’d need the equivalent of roughly 8–10 rafts of that size to safety accommodate everyone aboard.

Now we know— 1000+ bottles of wine AND 10 life rafts. You’re welcome.

Thankfully, on a Bordeaux river cruise, the most crowded vessel is usually the wine glass. 🍷

Before we stepped aboard our river cruise, we spent the day getting lost (on purpose) in one of the world’s great wine cities. 🇫🇷🍷

From the soaring architecture of Bordeaux Cathedral to the historic Porte Cailhau—once a defensive gate and triumphal arch—we were reminded that Bordeaux’s story extends far beyond what’s in the glass.

And because no cultural exploration is complete without a little research… we also made a stop at The French Bastards for pastries that were every bit as impressive as the city’s landmarks. 🥐😉

Wine, history, architecture, food, and a city that has been inspiring travelers for centuries.

Bordeaux is already exceeding expectations.
