Alleged attempted kidnapping and armed robbery suspect apprehended by team.
Last week there was an attempted kidnapping of a student in Castle Street Berea, where the suspects used fi****ms and knife. Luckily the young lady escaped the incident unharmed however was robbed of her personal belongings. A multi disciplinary team was assembled to conduct a intelligence driven operation to catch the suspects before anymore people could be harmed.
After a week of intense investigation, the vehicle used and main suspect was identified even though attempts such as changing numberplates multiple times were made to avoid being caught and conceal his identity. The perfect opportunity presented itself yesterday and the vehicle and suspect was stopped in Pontoon Road.
Further extensive investigation was conducted on scene and the suspects involvement was confirmed. Narcotics, weapons, ammunition, false numplates, and women's Identity cards were all found in the vehicle amongst other goods. It was also found that the suspects had been involved in additional crimes elsewhere and we are sure that the SAPS, through there ongoing investigation will be linking them to a lot more as well as will soon be identifying the remaining suspects.
The detained suspect was arrested by the SAPS and vehicle impounded for further investigation into the linked cases.
