You’ve checked the CV. You’ve interviewed them. But have you checked WHO you’re hiring?

A great CV and a good interview don’t tell you everything. Before you make that offer, make sure you have the right information to make a confident hiring decision.

We can assist with:
Criminal Checks
• AFIS Standard Search – 2 business days
• AFIS Premium Search – 4–5 business hours

WHY TAKE THE RISK?
One incorrect qualification, One undisclosed criminal record, One fraudulent application, One employee who isn't legally permitted to work.

Never Resign on a Verbal Job Offer

You’ve had the interview.

You’ve received the call.

“Congratulations, we’d like to offer you the position.”

Fantastic. You’re excited. You tell your partner, your family and probably half your WhatsApp contacts. Then you resign.

STOP.

Before you hand in that resignation letter, make sure you have the offer in writing. A verbal offer is encouraging, but it is not the same thing as having a confirmed appointment.

Why you should wait
A company can verbally indicate that they want to employ you, but there may still be important steps outstanding:
• Internal approvals may not be complete.
• The salary or benefits may still need final approval.
• References may still need to be checked.
• Background or qualification checks may be required.
• The employment contract may not yet have been issued.
• The start date may still be subject to confirmation.
• Occasionally, circumstances within the business can change unexpectedly.

Until you have written confirmation of the appointment and the key terms, you are taking an unnecessary risk by resigning.

What should you have in writing?
Ideally, you should receive a formal offer or employment contract confirming things such as:

✔ Your position/title
✔ Salary/package
✔ Start date
✔ Place of work
✔ Benefits, where applicable
✔ Any conditions attached to the appointment

Once you have received the written offer, read it carefully.

Don't assume that because the recruiter or hiring manager told you something verbally, it will automatically appear in the contract.

And recruiters — we have a responsibility too.
Candidates sometimes feel pressured to resign immediately because they are excited about their new opportunity. Our job as recruiters isn't just to get someone placed, it's also to make sure the candidate understands the process and doesn't put their current employment at unnecessary risk.

A good recruitment process protects both the client and the candidate.

So, if you're considering making a move, remember this simple rule:
Don't resign on a promise. Resign on confirmation.

That extra bit of patience could save you a very uncomfortable conversation with your current employer, and potentially a much bigger problem if the new opportunity doesn't materialise.
