A family-owned, heritage estate in Wellington producing award-winning wines of distinction. Est.1777

At the end of an oak-lined cul de sac in wine country, Wellington, is a family-owned farm making tiny quantities of delightfully different wines. This is Welgegund, whose name, which translates as "well bestowed", gives hint of its natural attributes. South Africa's own cultivar, Pinotage, is at the heart of the three-wine range, while the equally popular Chiara blend of white Rhônal cultivars is a four-star Platter's Guide laureate and frequent awards performer. Due for release is Ricco, a Mediterranean blend that, like its predecessors, is only to be made in limited amounts. Scenic and secluded, yet only 50 minutes from Cape Town CBD, a visit to Welgegund is a must for those who savour sumptuous wines, served up in a relaxed and friendly country vibe.

This Heritage Day, we raise a glass to the stories that endure and the traditions that continue to bring us together.

Good w**e, food over the coals, and a table with room for one more, a distinctly South African way to celebrate where we come from and what we carry forward. 🇿🇦🍷

Happy Heritage Day from Welgegund.

Perhaps that is what makes a memorable w**e: its ability to capture a place, a season and a moment, then tell that story each time it is poured.

At Welgegund, we like to think every bottle has a story worth discovering. 🍷

There is no better way to understand old vines than to experience them where their story began.

On 14 September, we look forward to welcoming international sommeliers to the W**elands as part of the WOSA Sommeliers Symposium, sharing the story behind South Africa's certified heritage vineyards and pouring the w**es they produce.

An opportunity to put South African old vines — and the remarkable w**es they give us — on the world stage. 🍷
