Introducing our Vineyard Cottage🌿

Perched on a slope of the Groenberg Mountain, our newly renovated cottage looks out over the rolling vineyards and towering mountains of the Bovlei.

Cosy up to the fire on chilly evenings with a glass of Bosman wine, or savour the views on the vine-draped patio during the day after a gentle meander along farm roads.

With more than half our vineyards planted to Chenin Blanc, we have so much to celebrate on International Drink Chenin Day.

This sun-kissed cultivar is our life blood and with it we make several wines: The Natural Sweet Soetsteen will soon be back in stock; the vibrant Generation 8 Chenin Blanc is always a winner; the elegant Seesteen made an impressive debut … but the showstopper is always the ‘grande dame’ Optenhorst Old Vine Chenin Blanc. This wine, from the 3rd oldest Chenin vineyard in the country, was saved from being uprooted in 2007 and vinified separately, quickly becoming an iconic wine revered for its rich complexity and unique, honeyed tones.

So take your pick, but make sure you drench your Saturday in Chenin Blanc and raise a toast to South Africa’s favourite white grape.🥂

Included in our June Wine Club box is our Limited Release Quintet 2023.

Sourced from the weathered granite soils of the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, this Bordeaux-style blend captures a unique sense of place, shaped by ocean breezes and fynbos fields. Layers of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry unfold with subtle hints of sweet, smoky spice, leading into a rich, textured finish.

Our Wine Club offers access to carefully curated wines, crafted to be enjoyed. Members can look forward to this release in their next box, and if you’re not yet part of the club, we invite you to join.

EARTH DAY : PLANTING FOR THE FUTURE🌱🌍

Today we celebrated our drive towards a resilient and sustainable future by hosting a workshop together with our sales and distribution partner, Vinimark.

Wian Mouton - Head of Cultivar Management explains the work we’re doing in our plant laboratories and out in the field to propagate disease resistant, heat tolerant varietals. These varietals require significantly less chemical spraying, so they limit the use of diesel guzzling, soil compacting tractors; and as these varietals ripen early, they also require much less water, saving a critical natural resource.

This Earth Day let’s make good choices for a resilient and sustainable future!

WINE FOR GOOD🤝

By now the story is well-known: Bosman Family Vineyards is an inclusive business model where 26% of the entire business and land is owned by the working community living on the farm. But how does that translate into ‘wine for good’? The obvious answer would be that as shareholders, the working community benefits directly from the sale of Bosman wines.

But the story is much more complex. While dividends are paid out annually to shareholders, so much more is done to impact and transform the lives of the 3000-strong community living on the farm.

From regenerative farming methods applied in the vineyard, to sustained care and education of our community’s children, at Bosman Family Vineyards wine is good. Made by good people working with good soil on the land they love, goodness is always the guide.

Great news! The Bosman Adama White made it into the Prescient Fund Services Cape White Blends Top 6 scoring an impressive 93 points and ranking 4th overall.
co.za exists both to celebrate South Africa’s best wines and as a forum for ideas. To this end they convened the Chenin Blanc Report sponsored Prescient Fund Services. There was a category for Chenin Blancs and another for Cape White Blends (defined as any blend containing a Chenin Blanc component of more than 15% and less than 85%). These were tasted blind by a three-person panel and scored according to the 100-point quality scale.

The Bosman Adama White is a blend containing just over 50% Chenin with equal portions of Viura and Vermentino and then a dash each of Grenache Blanc and Viognier. These components were vinified separately, matured in French oak for 4 months, and then blended together to form a wine with restrained aromas of jasmine, green apple and ginger with a lime finish followed through to generous flavours of stone fruit on the palate with a crisp acidity and a well-rounded mouthfeel.

Fine wine from a fine-grained foudre🍷

Two brand new foudres (pronounced foo-druhs) were recently installed in the Bosman cellar. These large oak vats have a 2000 litre capacity, much larger than the traditional 225 litre barrel. Their impact on the wine is therefore gentler, creating more refined tannins rather than toasty flavours. The wood is also thicker with a fine to medium grain which results in a slow oxygen release, offering an extended maturation capacity. Their elliptical shape delivers pressure evenly, allowing the lees to circulate and impart flavour and character evenly.

These large barrels were sourced from Garbelloto, an 8-generation family cooperage started in 1775 near Venice, Italy creating a wonderful synergy with the 8-generation Bosman family story where both families blend traditional and innovation to create excellence.

For now the 2026 Nero is maturing gently in these two barrels, but eventually they will be used of our premium flagship, the Erfenis red blend.

The Bosman Sunset Soirée under the oaks at the Wellington cellar has become legendary. But this year we decided to switch things up and host it in the fields of fynbos at Bosman Hermanus.

Guests trickled in, wending their way through the fynbos to sample our wines as the sun sank gently into the sea far below. Long tables were set out on the lawns in front of the fynbos and Rickey Broekhoven conjured up delectable platters of delicious fresh fare.

Suspended in beauty between heaven and earth, we celebrated the end of a good harvest, made new friendships, cemented old ones, and savoured life in its abundance.

For those who attended: thanks for joining us, it was a magical evening✨🌅🍷
