We have good news for homes and businesses considering Fibre to the Premise. From July 1st, the minimum speed requirements for some premises will change, meaning addresses eligible for Fibre to the Curb, that may not have qualified before, could now be eligible for a fibre upgrade.

If you previously thought fibre was off the table, it could be worth checking again. We’re here to help you understand your options and make the process simple.

Long before emails, fax machines, group chats, and “Seen at 2:14pm,” there was Telex.

As part of our weekly throwback Thursday series, we’re looking back to 1954, when businesses started using telex machines to send typed messages across the world in real time. Think of it as the very first instant messaging system, just a little louder, slower, and attached to a machine the size of a desk.

Banks, airlines, and newsrooms relied on it to communicate faster than ever before, laying the groundwork for the digital communication we now take for granted every day.

In 1956, Australia’s first TV broadcast opened with the now iconic line, “Good evening, and welcome to television” for the very first time. Just like that, entertainment changed forever.

Black and white TV launched just in time for the Melbourne Olympics, bringing live footage into loungerooms across Sydney and Melbourne. Families could suddenly watch major events unfold from home instead of hearing about them later on the radio.

These days, we’re more familiar with the Netflix ta-dum, but it’s proof that while the technology keeps changing, our love of a good watch hasn’t.

It’s the International Day of Play and gaming has certainly come a long way.

From the days of Alex the Kid and Rodney's Fun Screen to today’s online worlds and massive downloads, technology has changed how we play but the memories of those simpler games still hit differently.

What was your favourite game growing up?

As Lightning IP celebrates 10 years of keeping Australians connected, we’re throwing it back to a time when finding out the exact time meant picking up the phone, and no, not a mobile phone’s clock app.

In 1954, Australia introduced the iconic Talking Clock. By dialling a special number, you’d hear a perfectly timed voice announcing the time down to the second. At the time, it was seriously impressive technology, helping Australians set watches, clocks, and probably settle a few “you’re late” arguments too.

From dialling for the time to smartphones syncing automatically, technology has certainly moved quickly. But the goal has stayed the same, keeping people connected and in sync.

A new financial year is around the corner and it’s a good opportunity to look at whether your current tech setup is still working for your business.

From business phones to reliable internet, the right systems can save time, reduce stress, and keep your team moving. And with some providers increasing prices heading into the new financial year, now may be the right time to reassess your options.

Because technology should support your business, not slow it down.
