Progressively Capturing Behaviour and Optimising Performance Reviews:

In the business world, the conventional approach to performance reviews involves conducting them once or twice a year. Unfortunately, this periodicity often leads to a rushed scramble among managers to gather information and attempt to recall employee behaviours over the specified timeframe. A manager may disproportionately focus on an employee’s most recent performance—positive or negative—rather than considering their performance over the entire review period.
Managers strive to appear competent and in control of their team members’ performance, inadvertently causing them to overlook opportunities for a comprehensive assessment of performance over the entire review period, which could span the last 6 or 12 months. This tendency to focus on the most recent month or two, known as the ‘recency effect’, emerges as a natural reaction. Consequently, valuable chances to gain deeper, balanced insights into job performance and foster a more holistic understanding of one’s role tend to slip through the cracks.

The Coaching Framework:

Change is hard, yet it can be a critical step toward fulfilling a person’s full potential and achieving their goals, both at work and at home. This is where coaching comes into play. Here at Eclipse, we will show you an approach that involves focusing on your goals and how you can achieve them. We will ask exploratory questions and help our coachee envision what they wish to achieve, explore their true selves to discover their authentic leadership, set a learning agenda, and then experiment with and practise new behaviours and roles. We aim to provide support as our coachee strives to identify their learning opportunities, establish the groundwork for change, and then drive ex*****on.

Our role is to assist someone else with making change and help him or her spot the learning opportunities. This coaching framework is what helps tackle any challenges.
