The Dattner Group's women in leadership course, Compass Flagship, is currently in session, and today, during day 1 of module 2, we had the pleasure of being joined by Liv Downing, a mindfulness and meditation facilitator, as well as a registered psychologist. Liv shared a beautiful analogy that resonated with all of us. She compared our thoughts to trains, explaining that if nobody boarded those trains, they would eventually cease running due to the lack of demand.

This analogy holds true for our thoughts as well. When we don't engage with the thoughts and stories that challenge our mindfulness, they gradually occur less frequently, and the neural pathways associated with them diminish.

Thank you, Liv, for providing such a powerful analogy and visual representation. Your insights have deeply impacted our understanding of mindfulness and the importance of actively choosing which thoughts to engage with.

How do you achieve organisation alignment and engagement among senior executive leaders while turning outlier sceptics into genuine advocates?

It's no easy feat, but the power of a transformational coach and facilitator who asks the right questions at the right time, probes for more information, and provides a safe, non-judgmental space is crucial.

This is exactly what Dattner has achieved in her work with Laureate Higher Education during the first round of Working Life Audits for the executive team.

The results have been remarkable:
⭐ Increased trust between team members
⭐ A higher level of personal insight for individuals
⭐ Increased collaboration and alignment among the team
⭐ A team that views its ability as going from 'good to great.'

We thank Smith and Serck-Hanssen for providing this incredible opportunity to work with their team.

If you're curious about how a working life audit could support you or your team, don't hesitate to get in touch. We would be happy to talk you through it.

This week we hosted a quarterly Lunchtime Leadership Session, exclusively for our incredible Compass alumni! The room was buzzing with energy as we dived deep into the fascinating world of the Life Styles Inventory.

This session connected women who are hungry for personal growth and eager to unlock their full potential. We explored how understanding our individual thinking and behavioural styles can supercharge our effectiveness in every aspect of our lives.

The Compass community came together in full force, seizing the opportunity to connect, refresh, and collaborate on overcoming challenges and roadblocks we face when interacting with others. The support and camaraderie in the room were truly inspiring!

Huge thanks to our exceptional facilitators, Michelle Crouch, Zoe Dattner, and Thuy Nguyen. Their insights and expertise made the session incredibly insightful, leaving everyone with a fresh perspective and valuable takeaways.

‘The unexamined life is not worth living’ Plato

There is no trick to building self-awareness, no single one-stop-shop to buy insight or a guru who imparts the wisdom of the ages via a peaceful chant.

Self-awareness is a life-long commitment comprised of hard work and consistent effort. But the benefits are monumental, startling even. You discover your brain, who you are, your heart and how you feel, together lead you into a house with almost infinite rooms.

1. It’s all about your resilience, agility, adaptability and curiosity; if you invest in building self-awareness, your agency in life increases. Developing your self-awareness means you will react less and move towards what you want more easily. You will find people gravitate to you as you become increasingly and genuinely helpful and calm. The more you put into the journey, the more you are able to journey onward. Failure and success cease to hold as much meaning; learning becomes everything. You don’t judge yourself and you don’t judge others. You get on with life.

As part of our weekly as**at meeting every Tuesday (if unsure about what this is, refer to older posts), we were asked by the wonderful Sofia Munday from Finance to visually represent what work/life balance looks like using Daniel Abraham's Work/Life pie.

This session was an incredible way to view the thinking of the group in such a compelling visual. We had drawings depicting "work hugging life," work and life being symbiotically driven by a greater purpose, time allocation to derive work and life, a rainbow where all the arches had a different meaning, hands holding up life and the intersection between the two.

It was a truly fascinating insight into the perception of how we, as a team, view the relationship between work and life.

We would love to know what your pie would look like. Comment below.

Today, we came together to celebrate the one and only Hannah Foster, the master diary juggler, a ray of sunshine, and an all-round superstar with a can-do attitude. She has been Faby's right-hand woman at DG, but sadly, Han's time with DG has come to an end this week as she is moving on to incredible things in her chosen field of media.

In true DG fashion, we all went around the room and shared special memories of Han. At Faby's request, we also gave her a little roast (a hard task for the majority in the group, given that A) everyone LOVES Han so much, and B) the team is far too kind to even talk about others in jest).

We wish Han all the best for this next chapter of her professional career. She's one to watch!

Many of us try to hide our flaws, failures, and vulnerabilities because we fear judgment or rejection. But the truth is, by embracing our true selves and acknowledging our experiences, we can develop a stronger sense of self-awareness and authenticity.

By owning our stories, we can turn our challenges into opportunities for growth and transformation.

Let's stop running and start owning our stories!

Feeling stuck or unsure of your next steps? It’s a common occurrence for many leaders throughout the course of their careers. That's where professional coaching comes in, and as Hutton, customer experience manager at Armidale Regional Council shares, it can be a real game-changer.

This is just one example of how professional coaching can help you make significant progress in your career. Coaching provides a confidential and supportive space to explore your challenges, goals, and aspirations. A skilled coach can help you identify blind spots, develop strategies, and hold you accountable to take action toward achieving your goals.

Working with a coach can help you:
⭐ Gain clarity and focus: Through coaching, you can gain a deeper understanding of your strengths, values, and priorities, and clarify your goals and aspirations.

⭐ Develop new skills and behaviours: A coach can help you identify and work on specific skills and behaviours that will enable you to achieve your goals and excel in your role.

⭐ Overcome challenges and obstacles: With a coach's support, you can develop strategies to overcome challenges, manage stress, and navigate complex situations.

⭐ Build confidence and resilience: Coaching can help you build self-awareness, confidence, and resilience, enabling you to thrive in your career.

If you feel stuck or unsure of your next steps, consider working with a professional coach. It could be the game-changer you need to take your career to the next level.

A big shout out to Aimee’s coach, Naesmith, for her expertise. We always receive such incredible feedback from Cathy’s clients!

What a great final day for Module 3 for the Compass Online 12 Cohort with Dattner Group dynamic CEO Fabian Dattner as facilitator! This cohort of 35 women spans AUS and NZ from Stantec, McCormick Foods Australia, Vocus, Armidale Regional Council, and many more wonderful partners!

We worked through 4MAT learning styles and how to communicate more effectively and had the pleasure of discussing, role modeling, and working through presence and presentation with the fabulous Dr Louise Mahler.
