Vintage 2026 officially done and dusted…
Last press load today with our organic Syrah.

We still have some ferments going but I reckon it’s time to reflect on one of the most challenging but also rewarding years we have seen here at Utzinger Wines.

The growing season started cool and windy. The vines struggled to grow properly because the soil temperature stayed cold and the constant wind restricted growth. Things finally warmed up by December but the delay was such that we were never going to catch up again. Unfortunately the climatic conditions during flowering also resulted in a fair bit of millerandage (uneven fruit set with small, shot berries), meaning lower yields and uneven ripening.
While this all sounds rather depressing, the quality and flavour intensity of the fruit was really good and we’re very happy with the wines in the cellar. Definitely a cooler, fresher year; reflected in the wines with higher natural acidity, fresh fruit and plenty of drive. We can’t wait to show these to you in a few months…

As much as we love spending time in the vineyard and the winery, there’s more important things in life!

We just spent 6 days on the Overland Track, 80 km across the rugged wilderness of Tasmania’s central highlands. A lot of time with the family, far away from phones and emails.
So incredibly proud of of our two girls who walked the whole way, taking in the surroundings with a curious mind, connecting with country and fellow travellers. You girls rock!!!

Chuffed to see our 2024 Fumé Blanc being selected by Australia as one of their top alternative Sauvignon Blancs. Unfortunately, this one has sold out.... but 2025 is on its merry way and should see the bottle around October.

"Selected in the top wines of the blind tasting by Gary Mills and Clementine Bird. A leesy, textural expression of sauvignon blanc that takes the road less travelled, with Mills noting a flinty, pebbly complexity and questioning whether it was age or oxidative handling at play – either way, he found it worked beautifully. “White melon and red apple fruit, acid is well checked … a good, complex wine,” he said. Bird called it “an expressive wine, drinking like a tropical holiday,” with coconut juice, lime husk, salted nectarine and mango all wrapped in a pulpy, slightly spritzy frame. “It almost drinks like a cocktail,” she said, “with sea salt spraying in the background.”
