2022 TASMANIAN ARCHITECTURE AWARDS

Category: Educational Architecture

A Award for Educational Architecture has been awarded to Cradle Coast campus at West Park, University of Tasmania by John Wardle Architects in collaboration with PhilpLighton Architects and Room11 Architects.

The Cradle Coast campus manages its barren and windswept siting utilising a generous planted internal courtyard to provide relaxed recreation spaces and to internally focus dual levels of teaching, offices, and support facilities. Jury concerns over the contextual relationship between old and new buildings were reconciled by the applauded retention of the former arts building, its renovation, and integrated repurposing.

Another PLA project underway. Big launch today attended by the Premier Jeremy Rockliffe, Ministers Jaensch and Palmer. Looking forward to seeing this come out of the ground over the next 9 months.

TasTAFE, UTas, Tas Govt and the agriculture sector are working together to prepare the ground for our new Agriculture Training Centre of Excellence at TasTAFE’s Freer Farm in Burnie. The real workers arrive at the end of the month and students will be training here early next year.

It's open!
The PLA designed refurbishment of the MyState Bank Arena (formerly the Derwent Entertainment Centre) is complete and ready for the NBL
Plaques unveiled and ribbons cut by the Premier, Mr Gutwein, the full house watched the Tasmanian Jack Jumpers take on the Brisbane Bullets in the pre-season NBL Blitz. Not quite the result we wanted but so pleased to see the Arena come alive!!
