You’ve written the policy, talked it through with your team and popped it in the shared drive. Another thing ticked off the list! Woohoo!
Then a question comes through and you find yourself thinking… “Isn’t that in the policy?”
Sound familiar?
When you’ve put time into getting something sorted, it can feel frustrating to still be answering the same questions.
But those questions can help you see where your team needs a little more support.
Maybe the answer is hard to find. Maybe the wording leaves room for interpretation. Or maybe your team member knows the answer, but isn’t sure they’re allowed to make the decision.
If the same question keeps coming up, take a few minutes to open the policy with your team member and look at it together.
Use the situation they’ve asked about to talk through:
• Where in the policy would we find the answer?
• How would we apply that to what’s happening here?
• What can you decide yourself next time, and when should you check in with me?
You might find a sentence that needs to be clearer, a step that’s missing, or a team member who just needs to hear, “Yes, you can make that decision.”
A little time working through a real example together can help your team feel more confident the next time it comes up.
