You’ve written the policy, talked it through with your team and popped it in the shared drive. Another thing ticked off the list! Woohoo!

Then a question comes through and you find yourself thinking… “Isn’t that in the policy?”

Sound familiar?

When you’ve put time into getting something sorted, it can feel frustrating to still be answering the same questions.

But those questions can help you see where your team needs a little more support.

Maybe the answer is hard to find. Maybe the wording leaves room for interpretation. Or maybe your team member knows the answer, but isn’t sure they’re allowed to make the decision.

If the same question keeps coming up, take a few minutes to open the policy with your team member and look at it together.

Use the situation they’ve asked about to talk through:

• Where in the policy would we find the answer?
• How would we apply that to what’s happening here?
• What can you decide yourself next time, and when should you check in with me?

You might find a sentence that needs to be clearer, a step that’s missing, or a team member who just needs to hear, “Yes, you can make that decision.”

A little time working through a real example together can help your team feel more confident the next time it comes up.

If your brain has been spinning since the new Allied Health Award changes were released... you’re definitely not alone.

I’ve been hearing the same questions from practice owners again and again:

“Do I need to reclassify everyone?”

“If someone has years of experience, does that automatically put them at a higher level?”

“What if I get it wrong?”

“And where do I even start?”

If you’ve been wondering the same things, take a breath.

You don’t need to become an Award expert.

And you certainly don’t need to spend hours disappearing down a Fair Work rabbit hole trying to piece it all together yourself.

You just need someone to explain what the changes actually mean for your practice, what you need to do and when you need to do it.

That’s exactly why I created the Allied Health Award Changes Explained webinar.

For just $9, you’ll receive immediate access to the on-demand webinar, along with a practical factsheet you can keep beside you as you begin working through the changes in your own practice.

No legal jargon. No unnecessary overwhelm. Just practical guidance to help you feel clearer and more confident about what comes next.

Okay, it’s time to save the date! 🎉

CONNECT is coming this November!

We’re creating a day for allied health practice owners to step away from the everyday busyness of running a practice, spend time with people who GET IT, have some really great conversations and head home with fresh ideas for their practice.

And we are getting VERY excited about this one!

We’ll be sharing lots more about what we have planned very soon, but for now…

Pop the 13th of November into your calendar and watch this space! 👀

Feeling unmotivated, stuck or simply a little lost in the weeds?

Your first instinct might be to push yourself harder, make another list or try to catch up on everything at once.

But sometimes, what you really need is a reset.

For me, a meaningful reset comes back to four things:

✨ Creating enough space to see the bigger picture
✨ Taking stock of what’s working and what isn’t
✨ Choosing what matters most right now
✨ Protecting the energy you’ll need to follow through

This isn’t about overhauling your entire practice or creating another enormous project for yourself.

It’s about pausing long enough to reconnect with where you’re going and choosing one manageable step that will help you move forward.

I talk through these four ideas in my podcast episode, How to Have a Mid-Year Reset. I’ve also created a free Reset Guide to help you work through them in your own time and think about what a reset might look like for you and your practice.

You can listen to the full podcast episode and download the free guide here: https://theconnectionco.com.au/podcast/how-to-have-a-mid-year-reset/

I’ve been down a bit of a leave policies rabbit hole lately… 🐇

It usually starts with one seemingly simple question:

“What should we include in our leave policy?”

And then suddenly you’re wondering:

🐇 What does the law require?
🐇 What decisions can our practice make?
🐇 How much notice should employees give?
🐇 What evidence can we request?
🐇 Who does the employee need to contact?
🐇 What happens when someone doesn’t follow the process?
🐇 Does our current policy actually explain any of this clearly?

One question quickly turns into seven!

Leave often comes up when someone is unwell, caring for another person or dealing with something unexpected. It’s already a difficult moment, so the last thing anyone needs is uncertainty about what happens next.

That’s why we’re currently working through an Updating Your Leave Policies Booster Shot inside the membership.

It’s designed to help members separate the legal requirements from the decisions they can make within their own practice, then turn those decisions into policies their team can genuinely understand and follow.

What part of managing team leave sends you down the biggest rabbit hole?

One of the trickiest parts of the new Award changes is working out where each member of your team fits within the new classification structure.

That’s why we’ve created this practical New Award Changes Factsheet.

It gives you an easy-to-follow breakdown of:

• what’s changing
• how the four new levels work
• the pathways within Levels 2 and 3
• what to consider for each team member
• the important dates to have on your radar

The factsheet is included with our Award Changes Explained on-demand webinar, where I’ll walk you through the changes and the practical steps your practice needs to take before October.

If you’d like some help getting your head around the new Award changes, you can get instant access to the webinar and factsheet for just $9.

Are you using an AI Scribe in your Practice?

If you are, I’d love to know how it’s going. Has it genuinely saved your clinicians time, or has introducing it created a few new things to think through?

And if you haven’t started using one, what’s holding you back?

Imagine having three days away from client appointments, overflowing inboxes and the constant problem-solving that comes with running a practice.

Three days to slow down, think clearly and work out what you actually want your practice to look like.

Time to learn, make a plan and have honest conversations with practice owners who genuinely understand - all while enjoying beautiful surroundings, slower mornings by the water and a little space to take care of the part of you that needs a break too.

That’s exactly what the Healthy Practice Retreat was designed to do!

If you’d like to learn more, our Information Guide will take you inside everything we have planned for 2027, including what you’ll experience, what’s included, accommodation options, pricing and how to express your interest.

Applications are now open for 2027, with early-bird pricing available until 16 November 2026.

Download the guide below and start imagining what could be possible for your practice next year with the right foundations, a clear plan and the right people around you. 🫶

One of the easiest mistakes to make with the new Award classifications is assuming you can simply move each employee from their old level to the same-numbered level under the new structure.

Unfortunately, it isn’t quite that simple.

Before deciding where someone fits, you’ll need to consider:

❓whether they’re covered by the Award
❓their qualification and AQF level
❓their relevant experience
❓the duties they’ve formally been appointed to perform
❓the evidence supporting your decision

And remember, a job title alone doesn’t determine someone’s classification.

Someone might be called a team leader, senior therapist or specialist, but it’s the work they’ve been appointed to do (and the level of responsibility they genuinely hold) that matters.

If you’re not quite sure where to begin, my full Award Changes Explained webinar replay will walk you through the new structure and the practical steps involved in reviewing your team.

It’s available for just $9 and includes a helpful factsheet to keep beside you as you work through the process.

You can purchase the replay and start watching straight away here: https://theconnectionco.com.au/alliedhealth-award-changes-explained-on-demand-webinar/

Today I ran a Pop-Up Masterclass inside The Connection all about Understanding the New Award Classifications.

And there were some really great questions!

Because knowing the classifications are changing is one thing... but then you sit down and start looking at the actual people and roles within your team — that’s when the questions start to pop up!

So today we looked at real-life examples, talked through some of those greyer areas and worked through questions about individual roles and situations... because every practice and every team looks a little different.

If the new Award changes are still feeling a little tricky to navigate, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

Come and join us inside The Connection and let us help you work through it. 😊
