Ollie (Oliver) has run Clothier Ag’s egg processing machine since it started. Recently he was away for a few weeks.
Sam stepped in with nothing but the SOP and the Loom videos the family had built. In their words, “it went better than when Ollie was there. That’s what building a system properly looks like.”
Graham, Karen, Sam and Ollie run Clothier Ag in South Australia. Twelve months ago, a lot of how the business ran sat in one or two people’s heads, spread across filing systems two generations had built their own way.
Now:
* Files are in one place everyone can get to
* Everyone knows what’s been fed and where things stand
* They’re building the egg production data to catch lay-rate issues early
* Weekly coaching means today’s problem gets worked through with other farmers, not guessed at alone
They’re honest that it’s taken a fair bit of work, and that locking in family roles is next year’s job.
If your place has a job only one person can do, whether that’s processing, the header, the dairy or the books, this is worth five minutes.
