Thinking of getting your assets valued before the CGT changes? Hold off. ✋

Capital gains tax rules are changing from 1 July 2027, and the ATO says a valuation obtained now won’t comply with the changes.

A valuation can’t be forward-looking, so paying for a report today won’t fix a value for 30 June 2027.

What’s changing for gains from 1 July 2027:

〰️ The 50% CGT discount will be replaced with cost base indexation for resident individuals, trusts and partnerships.

〰️ A minimum 30% tax will apply for individuals on certain net capital gains

〰️ Pre-CGT assets will be subject to CGT

The good news: the main residence exemption isn’t changing, and for most individuals and trustees, the earliest you’ll need to report a gain under the new rules is when lodging your 2027–28 return.

What you should do now: keep good records of when you acquired your assets, what you paid and any changes along the way.

Every asset is different. Talk to us before you commission any valuation, and we’ll map out the right strategy for you. 💬

Here’s what’s on the table from 1 July 2027:

✅ Dynamic PAYG instalments: opt in to an ATO-approved calculation built into your accounting software, so payments better reflect your actual business activity.

✅ Monthly instalments by choice: quarterly and annual payers could opt in to paying monthly, by notifying the ATO before the start of the income year.

⚠️ A new ATO power: the ATO could require businesses with a history of non-compliance to pay monthly, with written notice, a right to seek revocation, and objection rights.

These changes aren’t law yet, but now is a good time to think about:

* How monthly payments would affect your cash flow
* Whether your software and bookkeeping are ready
* Your current tax compliance record

The ATO has confirmed it will no longer accept credit card payments for tax liabilities. Originally set for 30 November, the deadline has now been extended to 30 June 2027 following pressure from the small business community.

What does this mean for you?

🔹 Payment plans: If your ATO payment plan is currently paid by credit card, you’ll need to update your payment method before the cut-off. If you don’t, your payments may fail and your plan could go into default.

🔹 Cash flow: Many businesses rely on credit cards to manage the timing of tax payments. Losing this option may put pressure on cash flow, so it’s worth planning ahead now.

The good news? The extension gives you time to prepare. Alternative options include BPAY, direct debit, and bank transfer, and we can help you work out the best approach for your situation.

Big changes are coming to your superannuation!

From 1 July 2026, Payday Super officially becomes law. This means your employer must pay your superannuation at the same time they pay your wages, no more waiting for quarterly deposits.

If you are paid weekly, your super is paid weekly. If you are paid fortnightly, it’s paid fortnightly.

This is a massive win for your retirement savings, but there are a few things you need to do to make sure you stay on track:

Before 30 June: Double-check that your employer has your correct, up-to-date super fund details.

After 1 July: Check your first payslip to ensure your super is listed, and log into your fund to confirm it arrives within 7 business days.

Stay vigilant: Compare your payslips against your fund balance and watch for any missed cycles.

Want to make sure you are ready for the switch, or need help reviewing your fund details?

Is your payroll ready for June 30?

The end of the financial year is fast approaching, and keeping on top of your reporting obligations is critical for a smooth transition into 2026–2027.

Between managing Single Touch Payroll (STP) finalisations and shifting to the new Payday Super rules starting 1 July, there is a lot for businesses to track this month.

We’ve put together a handy EOFY payroll checklist covering the essentials you need to look out for, including:

✅ PAYG: Checking tax variations, managing cut-off dates, and updating software tax tables.

✅ Superannuation: Meeting the 30 June deadline for tax deductibility and preparing software for Payday Super.

✅ Payroll Tax & WorkCover: Ensuring correct multi-state registrations and reviewing budget incentives.

Don't leave your year-end compliance to the last minute. Read the full checklist on our website to ensure your business and your employees are completely set up for success.
