Balert Gerrbik Practitioner
Balert Gerrbik means 'my strong family/kin' in Taungurong language — and that's exactly what this role is about.
Our client is looking for a local Koori/Koorie person to work alongside families in the Ovens Murray region, helping parents and carers support their kids' early learning and development. This is a yarning, connecting, and relationship-building role not a desk job.
This is an identified position open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.
What you'll actually be doing:
- Visiting and supporting around 30 local Koori/Koorie families
- Running parenting programs and group sessions in the community
- Connecting families to other local services when they need extra support
- Working across the Ovens Murray region so you'll need a licence. Pool car available.
What we're looking for:
You don't need a university degree. What matters most is:
- You're Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- You understand the lives and challenges of local Koori/Koorie families lived experience counts
- You're a good communicator who can build trust with families
- You can stay organised and manage your own schedule
You will have:
- A current Driver’s Licence.
- A current Victorian Working with Children Check.
- A current Police Check.
- If you have lived overseas for 12 months or longer during the past 10 years are required to provide an international police check.
Experience in early childhood, health, community services, or social work is great but if you've got the life experience and the passion, we want to hear from you.
