Job Description – IT Support Technician (Data Center)
Location: Montreal, QC
Contract Length: 3 Months, start February 1st
Type: Full-Time, Contract
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced IT Support Technician to provide hands-on technical support within a high-availability data center environment. The ideal candidate has strong experience with fiber-optic infrastructure, servers, and hardware troubleshooting, and is comfortable working in fast-paced, mission-critical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide on-site IT support within the data center, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware and infrastructure.
Install, terminate, test, and repair fiber-optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode).
Rack, stack, cable, and configure physical servers and related equipment (switches, UPS, PDUs).
Perform diagnostics and repairs on server hardware (Dell, HP, Lenovo), including drives, memory, power supplies, and network cards.
Support and maintain structured cabling systems (Cat6/Cat6A).
Conduct routine data center operational checks: environmental monitoring, equipment health checks, and inventory control.
Follow strict change-management, security, and documentation procedures.
Coordinate with remote NOC/Engineering teams during deployments or escalations.
Ensure all work meets data center standards for cable management, labeling, and safety.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3+ years of hands-on IT support or data-center technician experience.
Strong knowledge and practical experience with fiber-optic cabling, including fusion splicing and certification testing (EXFO, Fluke).
Experience working with physical servers, storage systems, and network hardware.
Ability to lift, rack, and install equipment (up to 50 lbs).
Strong understanding of data center environment standards: power, cooling, UPS, PDUs, structured cabling.
Experience with ticketing systems and documenting work processes.
Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
Must be located in or willing to work on-site in Montreal.
Preferred Assets
Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, A+, or Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT).
Experience with Dell/HP/Lenovo enterprise hardware.
Prior work in a colocation or Tier III/Tier IV data center.
Knowledge of Linux or Windows Server environments.
Contract Details
Duration: 3 months (possibility of extension based on performance and project needs).
Schedule: Full-time, on-site.
Start Date: Immediate.
