Sharon Amesu is a multi award winning TEDx Speaker who started her career in Law. She was a Criminal Barrister for 16 years with a successful practice across the Northwest of England. Sharon now runs SA Consultancy that supports organisations with Leadership Communication. As a Professional Speaker, Sharon is invited to speak at global events on Women in Leadership and Courageous Leadership.
Sharon is a Founding Fellow of the Society of Leadership Fellows, St George’s House, Windsor Castle, was an Honorary Industry Fellow of the University of Salford Business School and was the first Black Branch Chair for the Greater Manchester Branch of the Institute of Directors.
Sharon is a member of the North West Business Leadership Team and is co-chair of the team’s Diversity Diversity drivers group. Sharon was a trustee of The Hallé Orchestra and chair of the Halle’s EDI Committee. She is a Board member of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter.
As co-founder of She Leads for Legacy, an organisation that has a community of over 2500 people supporting Black women and Allies with personal and professional development.
She is a TEDx speaker and a published instructor on the LinkedIn platform with over 80,000 students having completed her course on Courageous Leadership.

Four years to the day I started… I’m retiring from comedy. 🎤

On 31 August 2022, I did my first ever stand-up comedy gig.

I had absolutely no idea where it would lead or in fact lead anywhere.

Four years and 300+ gigs later, I think it’s time to hang up the stand-up mic.

And what a bloody four years it has been.

I’ve supported and worked alongside some amazing acts, including Clinton Baptiste, Crissy Rock and Hayley Ellis, as well as so many brilliant jobbing comics who have been equally supportive, informative, generous and, most importantly, bloody good fun to be around. I have done numerous one woman shows inc sell outs at my home towns iconic Octagon Theatre.

I’ve performed in some fabulous venues, some questionable ones 😂, died on my arse once in Liverpool, absolutely smashed it everywhere else, learned how to work a room, dealt with hecklers, made hundreds of people laugh and made some genuinely lovely friends along the way. I won Buxton Fringe stand up comedian of the year 2024, Southport Queen of Comedy 2024, Winner of the 8 mile comedy competition 2024 and performed in the semi finals of So You Think You're Funny at Edinburgh Fringe in 2002. I've beat the frog at F&B Manchester 5 times and one it twice (2022 and 2025)

I’m really proud that I gave it a go. And even prouder that I stuck at it long enough to do more than 300 gigs. But life looks very different now.

In the space of a few months I became self-employed, got divorced and moved house. My business has taken off, my speaking and hosting work is growing, and my priorities — and how I want to spend my time — have shifted.

I still LOVE being on a stage.

I’ll continue hosting events, speaking, facilitating and performing where it fits. Humour is a massive part of who I am and how I communicate, so nobody needs to worry that I’m suddenly going to become sensible. 😂 I have comedy workshops scheduled and multiple events and I'll carry on hosting my own comedy nights again from October.

But the bottom-line comedy gigging — driving somewhere on a Tuesday night to do ten minutes to 14 people and a Labrador — I think I’m done.

I do have commitments already in the diary and every one of them will be honoured. So if you’ve booked me, don’t panic!

You can still catch me at Wigan on 20 September, Little Lever, Bolton on 10 October, and at a couple of private events already booked. Comedy came into my life at exactly the right time.

It gave me (even more) confidence, friendships, stories, resilience and a completely different set of skills that I now take onto every stage I stand on.

I don't regret a single gig. Well… Maybe one or two. 😂 But four years to the day it began, it feels like the right time to say: Thank you, comedy. You’ve been an absolute blast. 🎤❤️

Friday feelings on failure in leadership.

Leadership Lounge starts 23rd September and runs monthly for leaders who want to improve, excel and learn. 2 hours online on a Wednesday evening - I have and am selecting speakers and educators who are the very best at what they do to support other leaders.

I initially thought that this should be a membership scheme, paying monthly, limited to 10 members but I have changed my mind.

It is now pay as you go. If the subject matter appeals and the speaker has piqued your interest just book a place. If you do all 12 great. If you do a few, great also. There may be a few of you at work interested in a specific quarter.....

I've designed the 12 months sessions against 4 quarters of learning.

I had 38 applications to speak at She Flocks 2027. Whittling it down to just 8 was unbelievably difficult. Watch this space for the speakers to be announced during September.
