Violence against women and girls has so many of us absolutely furious right now, and if you're a healer, or you've felt the call to start healing work, I want to talk to you about what we do with that fury.
We've waited for the systems to fix it for long enough.

Every week there's another headline, another woman's name, another round of promises. Meanwhile women are carrying all of it in their bodies, their sleep and their nervous systems, with nowhere safe to put it down.

A matriarchy puts healing and community first. It looks like the women holding circles in their front rooms, the Reiki healer with a waiting list at her local village hall, the tarot reader who becomes the person women tell first. It looks like safe spaces, and the healers brave enough to open them.

Every healer who starts their business adds one more safe space for a woman to heal. One more door she can knock on. One more person who'll believe her.

How to run a spiritual business as a beginner: start where people already gather.

My first tarot readings for the public were in a tea room. Later I read tarot at my friend's holistic spa. Both places already had the people, and all I had to bring was the cards.

If you're a beginner tarot reader, Reiki practitioner, psychic or healer wondering where to find your first clients, look at the small independent spaces around you. Holistic spas, coffee shops, cafés, bookshops and gift shops all make brilliant places to offer readings or taster sessions. Pop in, offer it up and see if they want it. Plenty of small business owners love having something special to offer their customers, and you get to meet people face to face in a space that already feels welcoming.

Starting a spiritual business gets so much easier once you stop waiting for clients to find you online and go to where they already are.

Spiritual business planning, simplified: ask the Being of your business what the business plan is.
I know it sounds really simple. That's because it is. Your spiritual business is a living being with its own wants, needs and direction. When you meet it, ask it what it wants and what the plan is, you come away with something far clearer than any template could give you. Then you write it down and get on with it.

I wish more people would stop treating their business like a machine. Because it isn't one.

Everything has energy. Energy has consciousness. Which means your business — the thing you built, breathed life into, have been pouring yourself into — is a living being with its own consciousness. Its own energetic signature. Its own way of moving through the world.

This isn't a metaphor. This isn't a cute reframe to make you feel better about your slow month. This is how energy actually works. And once you start relating to your business as the living being it is rather than a machine to be optimised and extracted from, everything changes.

The way you make decisions changes. The way you build offers changes. The way you respond to a quiet period changes. The way you understand what's working and what isn't changes. Because you stop trying to fix it and start trying to listen to it.

Your business has been trying to tell you things. What it wants to offer. What it wants to stop offering. What it wants to charge. Who it wants to work with. How it wants to show up. It has opinions. Your business has a Samhain too. This is the time of year when the things that are ready to die, die. The offers that aren't selling are finishing. The energy that's gone quiet is going underground so something else can grow in spring. If your business feels like it's pulling back right now, stop trying to push it forward. It knows what it's doing. It's done this before.

Samhain isn't just the thinning of the veil between the living and the dead. It's the moment in the cycle where we're asked to release what we've been holding on to past its natural end. For the wild women, witches and healers who were never built for fluorescent lights 🐺🔥
Think about how strange modern working life would look to any creature in nature. A wolf feeling guilty for wanting to rest. A bear asking permission to use the loo. A bird being told it has exactly thirty minutes to eat before getting back to being productive. And when something deep inside us is screaming to get out, we call ourselves lazy.
Spiritual women, empaths, intuitives and witches feel this so deeply. Our bodies, energy and intuition move in cycles, seasons and moon phases, and the 9-to-5 world asks us to switch all of that off. That restless, trapped feeling is your wild nature telling you exactly where you belong, and exactly where you don't.
That's where the old goddesses come in. Hecate at the crossroads with her torches and keys. Santa Muerte holding the mysteries of death and transformation. Lakshmi pouring out abundance and prosperity. Kali, fierce and unapologetic, cutting through illusion. Gaia, cradling the whole Earth. Divine feminine energy in all its forms: wise, wild, abundant, protective and powerful.
Bringing back the matriarchy, for me, means honouring cycles, rest, intuition, community and the sacred feminine in how we live and work. It means building spiritual businesses that follow our natural rhythms, and creating lives that feel as wild and free as we are.
