𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲-𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻

Granville Tunnicliffe-Wilson was the driving force in Yealand Redmayne. He and his wife Jean, attended the village meeting and had already heard about the project's success in Quernmore. They thought, ‘Thank goodness we could be included.’ Granville already knew Barry from work and knew that if Barry was involved, it would actually happen. Once Borwick was underway, it was easy enough to motivate the Yealands to invest and help. The Four ‘A’s leapt into action again. The EIS scheme was still running in those days. They had quite a few issues with wayleaves, which were their main headache. Granville says it was a case of ‘drop everything else and get out there’ every day, and they really enjoyed it. Their connection speed jumped from 0.25 Mbps to 1000 Mbps when they went live. There were not many houses, but they were spread out in various out-of-the-way places, and he had to organise some long digs and blows. He left no one out and reached every farm or property that requested a B4RN service.

Yesterday in Gisburn, our first customers went live on B4RN, and we compared their old connection with the new network. They ran a speed test on the previous service, which showed 19 Mbps download and 0.87 Mbps upload, then ran another speed test on the new B4RN network and got 996 Mbps download and 1036 Mbps upload.

Speed test results can vary depending on the time of day, device, and other factors, so a single test isn’t always perfectly repeatable. But there’s no question here: the difference is massive and very real.

A huge upgrade for the community and a brilliant example of the difference full-fibre can make.

Meet the amazing people behind our local B4RN - Broadband for the Rural North Ltd project. This is your Hexhamshire volunteer team who’ve been giving their time to bring fibre broadband to our community.

The team are meeting fortnightly and have spent the last couple of months being trained in all things B4RN so they can answer questions that you might have.

The project is moving ahead quickly, with Phase 1 planned to start as soon as this summer. Phase 1 involves a proposal to connect a cabinet at the Parish Hall to a line already installed at Allendale.

The volunteers have begun making contact with landowners on this route and seeking agreement to wayleaves, which give permission for the fibre network to pass through their land.

The volunteer team are passionate about getting this essential infrastructure to the community to safeguard it's future as somewhere people want to live and work for years to come -they liken it to properties being linked to the electricity network back in the late 19th century.

Dear residents of Lazonby,

Thank you to those who have taken the time to get in touch. We’re really sorry to hear about your experiences, and we completely understand the frustration. We especially appreciate concerns being raised, given how difficult and, at times, unsafe the road conditions can feel.

We’ve spoken with the on-site team and their manager to ensure all concerns have been clearly passed on. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the permit has now been extended until next Friday, and this will be updated on the one.network website shortly.

We’re doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as safely and quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Meet the Volunteer (Richard Wilson)

In the early days of B4RN, Richard Wilson had been volunteering on other village projects and had a pretty good idea what to do. He was a great help when it came Lowgill Way. He was always there at blowing time too, and helped the contractors fine-tune the routes. Blowing days are a lot faster if a local champion is there; they know how to get into fields, where to park, who the landowner is, etc. Richard was indispensable to Bruce and the team.
