Forget seagulls. There’s a new menace on the coast…

Meet the C-gull.

Unlike your common seaside thug, the C-gull likes Vitamin C, enjoys a good C-saw, and flies with all the grace of a badly thrown boomerang.

How do you spot one? Easy. Wait and C.

Is this ornithologically accurate? No.

Did I make a balloon bird purely because C-gull made me laugh? Absolutely.

If your event could use more fun and nonsense, C what I can bring to the party and get in touch! 🎈

What a brilliant day at the Michelham Priory Medieval Festival! ☀️🏰

I had a great time wandering through the different historical eras, chatting with some of the reenactors and discovering a little more about the people, skills and stories they were bringing to life.

I also found time to explore the historic house itself, which made a lovely change of pace from all the action outside.

The sun was shining, the place was buzzing and everyone seemed to be having a fantastic time. A thoroughly enjoyable day out!

Did you visit the festival? What was your favourite part?

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

For me, it was this weekend.

I went to not one, but TWO medieval festivals — and watched my first ever jousting tournament! 🏰

The horses were impressive, and there were some great knight skills on display too.

I also caught several shows - partly for fun, mainly as research for my next project. 👀

It was fascinating watching the different performers and seeing how they worked with the crowds.

More on that project to come…

So, when was the last time you did something for the first time?

Continuing my love of puns, balloons and general nonsense…

Meet the Triangull.

Living by the sea, I’ve seen plenty of seagulls. Noisy, food-stealing, pooping menaces that they are.
But I’ve never actually spotted a Triangull.
Apparently, they hide in corners… and some of them can be acute. 📐🐦

I know. I’m sorry (not sorry).

This is exactly the sort of balloon-based nonsense I bring to events, parties and celebrations – along with plenty of audience participation.
If your event could do with more silliness, get in touch and let’s make it happen.

And most importantly… have a wonderful bank holiday weekend 🎈

🎈 Why I’m an Equity member

Being a professional entertainer is about more than balloons, magic, circus skills and making people laugh.

As an Equity member, I have Public Liability Insurance up to £10 million for my professional activities, alongside personal accident cover and access to professional and legal support.

For clients booking entertainment for weddings, corporate events, family parties, venues, festivals and public events, it’s another part of knowing the sensible stuff behind the scenes is taken seriously.

You’ll see the balloon modelling, magic, circus entertainment and audience participation.

Behind it is a professional entertainer who takes the business side seriously too. 🎪🎈

Sunday’s journey to Eastbourne was a little busier than usual! 🎈✈️

The train was packed with people heading to Airbourne, Eastbourne’s air show. I was heading in the same direction… but for a very different reason.

My destination was Eastbourne Bowls Club, where they were holding a fundraising event for the local community.

I’d made a few balloon prizes beforehand, then once I was set up I spent some time entertaining the children who were there before getting stuck into some balloon modelling and creating balloon art for anyone who fancied one. 🎈

It was a fun, relaxed afternoon and a great example of how entertainment and balloon modelling can add something a little different to fundraising events, community events and family fun days.

Thanks to everyone at Eastbourne Bowls Club for having me - I hope the fundraising afternoon went brilliantly!

What are you up to next Sunday?

I’ve been thinking about warnings.

On Friday, the Government sent out an Emergency Alert — a blanket warning about activities that could start a fire.

It got me wondering: when is a blanket warning necessary?

In my entertainment work, I prefer to warn people when the risk actually arises.

Take balloons. Manufacturers warn against giving them to children aged 3 and under because of the choking risk.

But if a younger child has queued for a balloon, I’m not simply going to refuse. I’ll explain the risk to the parent and remind them that balloons shouldn’t go in the child’s mouth.

To me, that’s useful, proportionate safety advice.

Sometimes everyone needs the warning. Sometimes the person who needs to know is standing right in front of you.

Do you have to warn people in your work?

I managed to capture a photo of the partial solar eclipse! 🌘

It was a bit trickier than you might think - trying to line everything up while wearing all the necessary safety glasses isn’t exactly the easiest way to take a photo! 😂

But after a bit of careful fiddling, I got the shot. Definitely worth the effort to see the Moon taking a little bite out of the Sun.

A pretty special sight, and one I’m glad I managed to capture. ☀️🌙

Did you manage to see the eclipse?

With every new big project, I like to do something a little different.

And this time, I’m getting more magic-focused.

So, naturally, I’ve found a load of old rope. 🪢

I’m currently learning a new rope magic trick to add to my repertoire, which means I’ve been getting myself tied up in knots trying to get my head around it!

There’s plenty to unravel, a few twists and turns along the way, and I’m hoping I can knot only learn the trick, but make it entertaining for the audience too.

After all, a good magic trick needs a bit of mystery, a bit of skill and, preferably, an ending that comes together rather than comes undone. 😂

This project is going to bring together more magic, audience participation and performance, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

I’ll keep working on it and hopefully, before too long, I’ll be able to rope you in for the finished result.

In the meantime… I’d better get back to it.

I’ve got a lot of untied business to take care of. 😏
