This week is ! 🤝

Through our Volunteer2day policy, colleagues can take up to two days paid leave each year to volunteer, supporting causes that matter to them and making a positive difference in our communities.

Already this year, colleagues have given their time to support local charities and community projects, from litter picking and gardening to supporting community initiatives and events. 🌱

This , we’re celebrating how learning from our colleagues, partners, and communities shapes the way we work across the Growth Company. 🤝

A great example of this is the GM Business Growth Hub mentoring programme, which recently partnered with Manchester Metropolitan University on a live business project.

Over six months, five students worked with Hub colleagues and mentors to evaluate the programme, sharing insight and practical recommendations to strengthen and future‑proof the offer.

This project gave students real‑world experience while providing our mentors and colleagues with fresh perspectives that are already helping to evolve the programme.

• Wellbeing walks to take a break from screens and reconnect with nature
• Our Monthly Wellbeing Clinic, where colleagues explored small, practical actions to support everyday wellbeing
• An In Our Own Words webinar, which created a safe space to share lived experiences of long‑term conditions
• A session with our Employee Assistance Programme providers HA | Wisdom Wellbeing to learn more about the support available.

Today is ! At GC, our eight EDI Networks play a crucial role in shaping our colleague experience. 🤝

Over the last year, our networks have led and championed a wide range of activity – from launching ‘GC Voices’, our new podcast series sharing honest conversations, to creating safe spaces through initiatives like In Our Own Words, where colleagues can share their lived experiences. 💭

They’ve also helped drive meaningful change beyond conversation, including supporting our Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and Mentor Mums commitments to create a workplace where colleagues feel seen and supported.

These are just a few examples of how our Networks are shaping a more inclusive culture at GC.

The Growth Company has been awarded the contract to deliver the Jobs Guarantee across all ten boroughs of . 💫

Backed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and part of the Youth Guarantee, the scheme provides funded six-month paid work for young people aged 18-21 who have been on Universal Credit for 18 months or more.

Employers offering placements will receive comprehensive support from the Growth Company, including help with recruitment, onboarding, and in‑work guidance for both the employer and employee.

This year our colleagues have continued to make a real difference in their communities through volunteering and fundraising. 🤝

Using our Volunteer2day policy, which encourages every colleague to spend two days volunteering each year, teams have supported local organisations with hands‑on activity, while others have come together to raise vital funds for charities.

All of us at the Growth Company are deeply saddened by the passing of Eamonn Boylan OBE.

Eamonn dedicated his life to public service believing passionately in delivering change for people and places. He was a calming voice and an outstanding talent who contributed so much to Greater Manchester’s success over the last few decades.

A constant and reassuring presence to all those who knew and worked with him, we will feel the loss of his experience, wisdom and kindness greatly. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

We’re proud to share that GC is working with Mentor Mums, a UK based social enterprise offering free, career focused mentoring for parents and carers returning to work after leave. 🤝

Through this commitment, 10 colleagues will be matched with mentors who understand the realities of balancing career and family life, offering support, confidence building, and guidance as they return to work.

This commitment has been championed by our Parents & Carers EDI Network, which plays a vital role in helping us create a supportive environment for colleagues with caring responsibilities.

Vicky Wilding, Co Chair of our Parents & Carers EDI Network, said: "We are proud to be working with Mentor Mums – an organisation whose aim is to help parents transition back to work after parental leave by matching them with mentor parents working in similar jobs, who are a few steps ahead on the journey.” 💬
