🌈 We had a fantastic time at the Manchester Village Pride Parade this weekend!

Our LGBTQ+ Colleague Network joined the celebrations to show support for the LGBTQ+ community and promote an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcomed, supported and free to be themselves.

A big thank you to Manchester Central and Sterling Event Group LTD for inviting us to celebrate alongside them, on what was possibly the loudest float in the entire parade! 🎉🏳️‍🌈

Meet the panel for the Get Cancer Clever Breakfast Briefing

17,000 people were diagnosed with cancer in Greater Manchester last year. And research shows that work is the last place people would turn if they were worried about possible cancer symptoms.

Workplaces can play a vital role in enabling early diagnosis and supporting colleagues affected by cancer.

That’s why we teamed up with The Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance to host the Get Cancer Clever Breakfast Briefing on 22 September, to bring together senior leaders and HR and wellbeing teams who want to help create workplaces where people feel informed, supported and empowered to act.

Today we can reveal two of our panellists for the free event:

Julie Woosey, Chief People Officer at The Growth Company, will discuss what being a Cancer Clever employer means to our team.

Manisha Kumar, Chief Medical Officer for the NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board, will bring a medical viewpoint on the impact of early diagnosis and how signposting in the workplace can support it.

Want to better support colleagues affected by cancer?

One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, with 17,000 diagnoses in Greater Manchester last year.

That means cancer touches every workplace. Yet more than half of Greater Manchester employees (54%) aren’t aware of any cancer support in their workplace.

We want to make a difference. That’s why we’re teaming up with Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance to host the Get Cancer Clever Breakfast Briefing to bring together senior leaders and HR and wellbeing teams for a morning of honest conversation and practical action to increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer and equip employers to better support staff affected by cancer.

It’s been another fantastic month of colleagues giving back to their communities and supporting causes that matter to them through our Volunteer2Day policy. 🤝

Our colleagues have endured the heatwaves and got stuck into a mix of community and nature activities. 😎🌳

Here are just some of our recent highlights:

The Growth Company: Employment colleagues from many of our support services came together for a fantastic day of volunteering at Heeley City Farm in Sheffield, as well as Victoria Park Stretford M32, and with Ardwick Climate Action in Manchester.

Our GM Business Growth Hub Innovation team spent a rewarding day volunteering with Plant MCR.

For this year, we’re reflecting on the progress we’ve made over the past four years and how we’re continuing to take a holistic approach to the transition.

Our Group Sustainability Manager, Clare Fallon, shares how we’re connecting action across our own operations with wider support for businesses, communities, and individuals.

From helping businesses cut carbon and adopt clean technologies, to developing green skills and attracting investment into low carbon industries, we’re enabling a wider transition across and beyond.

From endurance challenges to hands-on volunteering, it’s been another fantastic month of colleagues giving back to their communities and supporting causes that matter to them through our Volunteer2Day policy. 🤝

Here are just some of our highlights from June:

At the start of the month, colleagues took on the , trekking 54 miles in 24 hours to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, led by our Military, Veteran and Reservists EDI Network. 💪

Our HR team carried out a litter pick around Victoria Baths in Manchester, helping to keep the local community clean. 🗑️

GC Insight colleagues volunteered with Mustard Tree, helping people refine CVs and apply for roles, before assisting in the food hub in the afternoon. 💼

Finally, as comes to an end, colleagues from across The Growth Company Employment supported Sparkle - The National Transgender Charity, helping set up for Sparkle Weekend. ✨

This week, our colleagues have been coming together over cake to mark 💙

Organised by our Parents & Carers EDI Network, these cake drop‑offs have sparked important conversations about the realities of caring, and how we can all better support carers in the workplace. 🧁

Some colleagues have also recorded a special episode of our GC Voices podcast, sharing their lived experiences as carers to help raise awareness across GC. 🎙️

This week is ! 🤝

Through our Volunteer2day policy, colleagues can take up to two days paid leave each year to volunteer, supporting causes that matter to them and making a positive difference in our communities.

Already this year, colleagues have given their time to support local charities and community projects, from litter picking and gardening to supporting community initiatives and events. 🌱

A huge well done to everyone who has volunteered so far 👏

This , we’re celebrating how learning from our colleagues, partners, and communities shapes the way we work across the Growth Company. 🤝

A great example of this is the GM Business Growth Hub mentoring programme, which recently partnered with Manchester Metropolitan University on a live business project.

Over six months, five students worked with Hub colleagues and mentors to evaluate the programme, sharing insight and practical recommendations to strengthen and future‑proof the offer.

This project gave students real‑world experience while providing our mentors and colleagues with fresh perspectives that are already helping to evolve the programme.

This week is , and across GC our colleagues have been taking part in opportunities to pause, reflect and learn together, including: 💭

• Wellbeing walks to take a break from screens and reconnect with nature
• Our Monthly Wellbeing Clinic, where colleagues explored small, practical actions to support everyday wellbeing
• An In Our Own Words webinar, which created a safe space to share lived experiences of long‑term conditions
• A session with our Employee Assistance Programme providers HA | Wisdom Wellbeing to learn more about the support available.

And yesterday, many of our colleagues proudly supported to help raise awareness. 💚 Mental Health Foundation
