BE ACTIVE.......the final one of the five ways to wellbeing, as we come to the end of Mental Health Awareness Week. Although the model I have shared can help you support your mental health every day of the year.

Being active can be as simple as moving your body - you don't have to join a gym or a class or anything formal, it can be daily walks, cycling along the prom or even housework! Physical activity can be fun, good for your physical and mental health, social and just makes you feel good.

Especially if you can find something you enjoy, you will stick with it! I love being in the water so swimming is top of my list, as well as daily walks, and this year I decided to join a new run club for women .runs.this.city - I saw it advertised and went for it. It's for every pace and is inclusive through and through, one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I may not be the fastest or have the best technique but I love it!

Find what you enjoy πŸ’™

CONNECT......one of the five ways to wellbeing, possibly the most significant one.

My "sea sisters" πŸ’™

We meet every week, same day, same time and place.....no wetsuits, our bodies braving the year round temperatures, all looking out for each other, building our connection and bond every time we dip together. A very special connection......one of the cornerstones of my life.

Today happened to coincide with the paddle out organised by to call for the end of sewage pollution πŸŒŠπŸ’©

KEEP LEARNING......one of the five ways to wellbeing.

It doesn't have to be anything formal, it can be as simple as learning a new recipe or physical activity. Keeps your brain active, can be fun, sometimes social and may even open up new opportunities in life.

I was all booked to attend The Mental Health & Wellbeing Show 2026 today in Cardiff but life responsibilities had other ideas and I was unable to attend. I'd booked on to explore new ideas, find out more of what's out there, make connections and share the work | do and had planned to attend a seminar "Walking with Grief" hosted by Paul Fears. Apparently the keynote speech with Phil Steele was well worth a listen!

I unintentionally fell into my original "line of work" - HR - but with support I was able to take the leap and retrain as a Counsellor in midlife.....finally able to play to my strengths, and in line with my values, which inevitably leads to more satisfaction and enjoyment in what you are doing. I feel very lucky that it led to the creation of Bluespace πŸ’™

TAKE NOTICE.....one of the five ways to wellbeing.

Your garden is a brilliant place to start noticing the changing seasons and tonight I managed to dodge the showers and take a walk around Clyne Gardens (we are blessed with wonderful green urban spaces in Swansea) and notice all the changes as it is "in bloom".

Any mindful activity is a good way of supporting your mental and emotional health, taking notice of what is going on around you and how it makes you feel.

I'm also lucky enough to call this my "workplace" as I take therapy out of the room and into the outdoors with walk and talk one to one sessions. If you would like to know how this works, get in touch!

GIVE......one of the five ways to wellbeing.

Giving of yourself not only benefits others but it benefits you too! I've been lucky enough to volunteer for organisations like Cruse, CISS, Age Cymru and Swansea Council over the years.

Soon after setting up my private practice, Bluespace, it became apparent the amount of people needing support to navigate their grief and so I decided I would set up my own (Grief & loss) Support Group, which is what I've done. To give something back to my community and support people in a way I know I can.

I can genuinely say it is an honour and privilege to facilitate the group πŸ’™

Mental Health Awareness Week
- one of the most high profile health campaigns in the UK, organised by the Mental Health Foundation. The theme this year is "take action to support good mental health"

The campaign highlights the importance of good mental health, challenges stigma and promotes the practical actions you can take to support your own wellbeing.

I am supporting this year by taking action aimed at improving my wellbeing, mental & physical health and overall quality of life - through the 5 ways to wellbeing:

GIVE
TAKE NOTICE
KEEP LEARNING
BE ACTIVE
CONNECT

Simple evidence based actions that can be integrated into daily or weekly routines. Follow along over the next 5 days to see what action I'm taking, for myself, for others, for all of us! πŸ’™

Dying Matters Awareness Week

It's so important to talk about death, dying and bereavement, to break down stigma and have the conversation......if we don't, it can be harder to cope when we experience it.

At the 2nd meeting of our grief & loss support group yesterday, we shared our experiences and I introduced Lois Tonkin's way of thinking about grief - Growing Around Grief - which can provide comfort in the thought of your grief staying the same size (it doesn't get smaller) but slowly over time, your life begins to grow bigger around it.

Get in touch if you would like to know more about our group πŸ’™

πŸ’™ THIS FRIDAY πŸ’™

Join me for the first session of my grief and loss support group, which I hope can become the bridge from isolation to connection.

My aim in facilitating the group is to cultivate a supportive environment that enables healing through shared experiences, and collective understanding, creating a pathway for emotional growth.

An open access group for adults.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or would like to discuss any aspect in advance of the session.
