We're really excited about this weekend, we are hosting our newly formatted event The Startup Studio!

In a little over 24 hours participants will go from choosing an idea to build a business from, to pitching that business to our three judges. We'll be creating Lean Canvases, validating ideas, creating branding and a prototype/demo model, doing some financial forecasts, and creating that pitch.

We are excited to be bringing a new concept to Blenheim, we have had great feedback about Startup Weekend, but we listened to feedback - the idea of going from idea to pitch was well loved, however the commitment of a weekend was too much. So we created a new event - The Startup Studio. Still the same idea development, using the same important basic business building concepts, but reducing the time taken and focusing on the learning process.

This event is for anyone and everyone who wants to develop business skills and learn new things. Whether you want to build your skills to take back to your business or your job, or you want to start your own business and are wondering what the steps you need to take are, or you just want to learn some new skills and make new connections, then you'll love this event.

Being a mum and juggling children, home life and a small business can be hard, especially if your children are still very young! Mums often don't attend business meetings because of their preschool children, or feel that they don't fit in with their part-time businesses. So we're offering a space for mums to come, bring their little ones, learn about setting up and running a business and spend time with other people in the same position, all while your preschoolers enjoy the facilities at Little Red Fox Hub (or you cuddle your baby). Interruptions are expected and accepted. The course will be hosted by Beth Barnes who runs her own business around her young daughters, giving her a personal understanding of the challenges of combining the two.

The course will be 8 weeks on a Wednesday morning during term time (mums of kids at school are also very welcome), and includes the things you need to know and consider for starting and running a business, including tips on being organised. Bring your preschoolers to play while you learn how to build a business and a life you love. Over the past few courses we have had a variety of speakers on different topics, including Mayor Nadine Tayor telling her story and giving some tips on being a mum of small children while building a business. The cost of the course, with our Business Trust Marlborough subsidy, will be $69+GST for the full 8 weeks and this includes entries to Little Red Fox Hub, the course, and morning teas. This course starts on Wednesday 6 May.

This is a practical course on how to use Canva. You'll bring your laptop, log into your account, and follow along with Beth. This course is designed for you to gain confidence, try new things and come out with a new skill that you can use in your business. It is also an opportunity to ask your questions and make the most of this tool.

(Please note: there will be varying industries and experience at the course, the things covered will be relevant to most businesses, specialist help is available following the course if required.)
