We Notice What Others Miss.

While most people are going about their day, our volunteers are out in the community—keeping an eye on our streets, reporting abandoned shopping trolleys, illegal dumping, suspicious activity, and anything else that affects the safety and appearance of our neighbourhood.

💙 Keeping Our Community Safe – Together

At Riccarton Community Patrol, we care about everyone in our community.

During out-of-school hours, you’ll often see our patrol vehicle around local schools. Our volunteers regularly patrol school neighbourhoods to help provide an extra set of eyes, increase visibility, and support a safe environment for students, families, staff, and nearby residents.

Our role is simple:

Working alongside New Zealand Police, we help keep our community safe by being present, alert, and connected.

Whether we’re patrolling schools, shopping centres, parks, or residential streets, our goal is the same—to help make Riccarton a safer place for everyone.

You must signal for at least 3 seconds before moving left or right. It's the law.

That means signalling for at least 3 seconds before turning, changing lanes, pulling out from a kerb or parking space, or otherwise changing direction.

This is especially important in winter. Visibility is reduced in bad weather. People around you need to understand what you’re doing so they have time to adjust their speed – especially on slippery roads.

Signalling around roundabouts is different. As you can see in section 3.10(5), the law doesn't state a minimum time you must signal at roundabouts. That's because some roundabouts are small. But the law still requires you to at least show a signal so everyone else knows the direction you’re travelling.

Christchurch City Council is urging residents to be careful after discovering fraudulent parking stickers directing customers to false payment websites.

The stickers were reported this morning with QR codes placed on some parking machines across the city, including machines from the Council as well as other parking providers.

In each case, the meter screens had also been vandalised with permanent marker to prevent customers from using the machine and instead encourage them to scan the fraudulent QR code to make payment.

If you believe you, or someone you know, may have used the fraudulent website or entered bank card details, please contact your bank, the Police, and phone the Council’s Contact Centre on 03 941 8999 to advise the location of the fraudulent sticker.

The Council is working with Police and other parking providers to ensure the stickers are recognised and removed as soon as possible.
