Still soaking this in.

What an honor to receive the 2026 Austin Woman Way Maker Award and stand alongside three incredible finalists:
Sara Mack – Artist Couple
Casey Chapman Ross – CCR Studios
Zuzu Perkal – Pink Hair Productions

Please take time to read the digital issue and learn about these women and the work they are building in the world. There is something powerful that happens when women gather around vision, creativity, leadership, and action.

These last few years have taught me the importance of community. Especially communities filled with women who are brave enough to imagine something that does not yet exist… and determined enough to build it.

It requires faith, adapting, flexibility, resilience and forging forward. It's easier in a community of women who are just as crazy to think they can do it!

Women who see possibility where others see limitation.
Women who turn ideas into movement.
Women who roll up their sleeves and create change in real life.

Honestly, if that is not magic, what is?

I am deeply grateful to be part of this village.

Thank you for creating spaces where women, founders, artists, leaders, and changemakers can be seen, celebrated, and connected. 🤍

Africa Day is a beautiful space to reflect on heritage, but more than that, it is a day to celebrate the people who protect it.

At SAWA SAWA, we are profoundly grateful for our partnership with the talented artisan women of Kenya. Every single handwoven basket and hand beaded pattern they create is a piece of living history. These women are the ultimate culture bearers, showing us daily what it looks like to live in quiet coexistence with the earth, using natural fibers that respect the land.

We don’t believe in handouts; we believe in the dignity of shared responsibility. When you bring one of these timeless, meaningful pieces into your life, you aren't just making a sustainable choice, you are stepping onto the bridge we’ve built together.

Today, we honor the ancient wisdom, the brilliant artistry, and the incredible women who make it all possible. Happy Africa Day.

Handmade with Love! Every warp, every weft carries history from the past and a hope for the future!

In a world that prizes speed, automation, and mass production, we believe that true luxury is something entirely different.

Luxury is patience. It is heritage. It is the human touch.

When you watch our artisan partners in Kenya work, you see this philosophy in its purest form. They take raw, resilient sisal fibers and slowly, deliberately roll them against their thighs, using the warmth and rhythm of their own hands to twist the strands into an incredibly strong, durable cord.

There are no machines here. No shortcuts. Just a technique passed down through generations of grandmothers, mothers, and daughters, ancient wisdom physically woven into every single thread.

This is why handmade is the new luxury. When you carry a SAWA SAWA piece, you aren't just holding a beautifully designed accessory. You are holding hours of quiet dedication, a piece of a woman’s life story, and a beautifully crafted promise made to last forever.

We invite you to step away from the noise of the fast-paced world and join our artisans in celebrating things made the way they were always meant to be: with intention, respect, and soul.

There is a quiet, steady rhythm to things made by hand.

It begins in the earth, with the resilient fibers of the sisal plant. In the hands of artisan women in Kenya, these raw leaves are harvested, dried, and transformed—not just into functional pieces, but into vessels of ancient wisdom and generational pride.

When you look at a SAWA SAWA bag, you are looking at an enduring legacy. You are seeing a mother’s skill bridging the gap to her children’s education, and an intentional choice to live gently on our planet.

This isn't just something you carry. It is a shared responsibility for a kinder world.

Participating in 2026 reminded us how much value exists in what we already produce locally.

Kenya is rich in craftsmanship, leather work, weaving, design, creativity, and skill. The materials are here. The talent is here. The stories are here.

What matters now is continuing to build capacity, create quality, invest in design, and believe in the value of African-made products at a global level.

ASFW brought together conversations around sourcing, sustainability, innovation, leather, textiles, and the future of African production. It was powerful to see so many people focused on growing industries that create jobs, preserve craftsmanship, and strengthen local economies across the continent.

For SAWA SAWA, this work has always been about more than products. It is about creating opportunity through ancient craftsmanship and proving that handmade, sustainable, ethically produced goods from Kenya deserve a place in the global market.

One artisan. One workshop. One kiondo at a time. 🇰🇪

Thank you to Mitchelle of Sawa Sawa for being part of the conversation.

There is something special about finding people who genuinely care about doing good and creating spaces where women can thrive.

We are excited to welcome our newest team member in Kenya, Faith.

Faith joins SAWA SAWA to help tell the story of this work: the artisans, the villages, the partnerships, the travel, the team, and the shared responsibility for people and planet that sits at the center of our mission.

She has spent years in storytelling and communication spaces, and we are excited to see how her light, creativity, and perspective will help illuminate this mission even further.

From social media and PR to village visits, partnership spaces, pop-ups, and the everyday moments behind the scenes, Faith will help carry the voice of SAWA SAWA to the world.

Join us in welcoming Faith to the SAWA SAWA family.

Thanks to our partners at Could You Cup. our artisans and their daughters have access to sustainable, reusable menstrual resources that can change daily life in a very real way.

When you add a $15 menstrual cup to your cart, you help provide a woman with up to 10 years of menstrual relief.

Think about that.

Less stress every month.
Less money spent on disposable products.
More freedom to work, attend school, be social, show up for family and community, and simply exist comfortably as a woman.

Small solutions can create massive impact over time.

We are grateful to Could You Cup for helping make dignity, sustainability, and long-term care more accessible to the women we work with. 🤍
