The funeral profession sits at the intersection of empathy, pressure, family dynamics, logistics, and emotion. How leaders communicate shapes trust, eases tension, and influences how families experience some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Keith Scott and I were honored to kick off the National Funeral Directors Association's Women's conference. Along with our TALLsmall keynote about communicating with charisma, compassion and clarity, we led two breakout workshops on taking charge of our Self-Talk.

Dollar Bread. Detox. Self Defense.

When you include everything, nothing stands out.

We see this in presentations, meetings and job interviews. In the desire to say it all, the message gets diluted.

We challenged a hospital team to build rocket ships this week.

What looked like a fun team-building exercise carried a deeper purpose. It revealed how teams react when directions change without warning.

Mid-build, Keith and I shifted directions. Switched team members. Removed critical materials. Even took away their ability to talk for a few minutes.

It stopped being a TALLsmall exercise. It became a mirror.

Some teams chased height. Others reinforced the foundation.

Every group recalibrated instead of resisting the change.

That said everything.
